This apéritif is a variation on an Americano. The story goes that it was first made in the early 1900s at the Caffè Casoni in Florence, Italy, for the Count Negroni, who liked a splash of gin in his Americano. We love the taste, especially with Gran Classico Bitter, and the fact that we can’t easily forget the formula: It’s a one-to-one-to-one ratio, plus an orange twist.

- 1 ounce gin
- 1 ounce Campari (Gran Glassico Bitter can also be used)
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth, such as Carpano
- Orange twist, for garnish
- 1Place a cocktail or Old Fashioned glass in the freezer to chill.
- 2Combine the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth in a cocktail shaker and fill it halfway with ice. Stir until the outside of the shaker is frosted. If you’re using an Old Fashioned glass, add ice cubes to it. Strain the drink into the chilled cocktail or Old Fashioned glass. Garnish with the orange twist.
