Dreamy Orange Sherbet Punch Recipe

Dreamy Orange Sherbet Punch
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: Under 5 mins | Active Time: | Makes: 12 cups

The highlights of birthday parties I went to as a child were the large punch bowls filled with sherbet punch, a fruity, fun version of an ice cream float. As an adult, it’s still hard to resist this fizzy drink that surprises you with creamy traces of sherbet as you sip.

Game plan: Since this drink is not served over ice, make sure your punch bowl and all your ingredients are well chilled. To keep the punch cold for a longer period of time, fill a larger bowl with ice and nestle the punch bowl on top.

This recipe was featured as part of our Nonalcoholic Summer Sippers photo gallery.

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 cups ginger ale (48 ounces or about 1 1/2 liters), chilled
  • 2 1/2 cups orange juice, chilled
  • 1 cup pineapple juice, chilled
  • 12 scoops orange sherbet (about half of a 1-1/2-quart container)
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine ginger ale, orange juice, and pineapple juice in a punch bowl. Float scoops of sherbet on top and let sit until sherbet melts slightly, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.

  • LGD--to this day, I love the combo of 7-up and orange juice. (Weren't those white cotton gloves--just barely wrist length--the ultimate??)

  • What mtomto said.

  • So many wedding receptions in the basement of Baptist Churches served this when I was a child. I wore my little dress and my white cotton gloves and believed that I was the most sophisticated person on earth. Well, I didn't really know the word sophisticated but whatever the word might have been in my 10 year old brain.

  • Vodka. Needs vodka.

  • Another option is to freeze the juice in a ring,ie jello mold, float on top of the other liquids and float the sherbet in the middle of the ice ring
