Gibson Recipe

Gibson
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: Under 5 mins | Active Time: | Makes: 1 drink

As with most classic cocktails, the Gibson’s origin is a topic of debate. Was it an East Coast creation at New York’s Players Club for illustrator Charles Dana Gibson? Or a West Coast one at the Bohemian Club for W. D. K. Gibson? No matter—stir your preferred martini and garnish with a cocktail onion.

  • My F-i-L, an inveterate Martini drinker told me about the guy on the commuter club car, who too often had tee many martoonis, and was given the ultimatum by his wife. So he asked the bartender to make his martini with water instead of gin. The barkeep obligingly put an onion in Gibson's water, so's to tell it from the olived Martinis. Soon enough, everyone wanted "Gibson's."
