Martinowitz Recipe
In the 2010 Oscar-nominated film A Serious Man, Larry Gopnik’s life seems pretty miserable. After unsuccessful therapy sessions with three different rabbis and bad news from his doctor, Larry could use an elixir. We would prescribe him a Martinowitz—a gin martini straight up, dirtied with a kosher dill pickle.

sorry guilty but i believe the name is to imply its a jewish martini, i actaully think its funny though.
We've been making martinis with pickled tomatoes for years. The brand we use are Tomolives, from a company called Old South (their watermelon pickles are to die for). You can get Tomolives at the liquor store or in the gourmet section of the supermarket.
Sounds like my kind of libation.
This sounds delicious--I'll try it next time I make pickles. But I need to know--what's with the name? It looks like a "Jewish" version of martini, but that would be so lame, I know it must be something else . . . right?
At Sweet Afton in Astoria, Queens, they call this a Dirty Pickle Martini. Now I want one.
