This was GREAT! Fruity and easy, with a nice bite of rum. It was a pain to get the Pussers, and a small bottle ran me nearly $40 at the dang LCBO, but so worth it.

  • This is my No.1 summer cocktail and it's always a big hit when make this for parties or BBQ. It's so tasty and really kills any pain! Soggy doller bar in Jost Van Dyke in BVI is heaven. If you add equal parts orange and pineapple juice, it's even better!

  • Invented by George and Marie Myrick in 1972, the original owners of the Soggy Dollar Bar in Jost van Dyke, BVI. Their clever answer to a pina colada with no electricity, and named for the tree growing near the bar, aka Noni. Properly served in a plastic cup, and often made with Cruzan gold rum, which is much more commonly used in the area.

  • I was taught to make and love Painkillers, the politically correct name for these drinks, by my dear friend Kate, the daughter of the past owner of the Soggy Dollar Bar who insists that her mom (shout out to you Daphne) was the one who created it.

  • According to Beachbum Berry, the original Painkiller created in 1971 was made with Mount Gay and dark Cruzan rums. Later, Pusser's entered the scene and trademarked the drink in 1989. Their trademark only extends to the sale of the pre-bottled beverage, not the recipe itself. So no, you don't need to use Pusser's by definition. And Beachbum Berry finds that dark Jamaican rum works just swell.

  • As Paulustrious said it... the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke invented this drink. I've had many of the original there on the beach. And yes. Pussers was the rum to be used since it's pretty much THE rum in the BVI.

  • I believe Pusser's actually trademarked the drink, so by definition a Painkiller has to use Pusser's.

  • Even better, Paulustrious!

  • Since this is their take they can have their own version. The original at the Soggy Dollar in the BVI uses orange juice, not wedges. The nutmeg is grated in before mixing so it is a flavouring not a garnish. I don't remember the rum being Pusser's, since I am not keen on that grog.

  • I love coconut, pineapple and orange ( and rum) and would seriously love this drink.

  • love the name!

  • This is one of my favorite summer cocktails of all time!!! It is a very serious beverage.
