I've had this hot (warm), spiced wine in northern Italy, to be precise in Perdenone, north and east of Venice. There it's called vin brule, no matter what the translation, that's what they call it locally. We found it being served to shoppers in a temporary stand set up among many others selling Christmas gift items. I asked the vendor for the recipe, he didn't mention vanilla or sugar but included everything else in this recipe. A delightful Italian potion I've enjoyed here at home. Salute!-COLLAPSE

  • Vin brule is the name for this drink in Italy. We drink it all over Northern Italy this time of year.

  • @SwedishMeatballs,

Their ingredients list is correct. The literal translation isn't accurate to the definition. Think "mulled" not "burnt."

  • I think you mean "vin chaud", not "vin brûlé", the drink they serve in the winter in France and Germany. "Vin brûlé" translates to burnt wine... which I don't think is what you'd want to drink.
