Widow's Kiss Recipe

From: Drink , by
Widow’s Kiss
Total Time: Under 5 mins | Active Time: | Makes: 1 drink

John Gertsen, bar manager of Drink in Boston, gave us this recipe. With not one, but two warming herbal liqueurs, this cocktail is spicy and sweet, but it’s balanced out with a dash of bitters.

What to buy: Bénédictine D.O.M., a golden liqueur first produced by Benedictine monks in the 16th century, adds a sweet, aromatic flavor to cocktails. It can be found at well-stocked liquor stores.

This recipe was featured as part of our New Year’s Eve Speakeasy Party.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 ounces apple brandy, such as Calvados
  • 3/4 ounce Yellow Chartreuse
  • 3/4 ounce Bénédictine D.O.M.
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
INSTRUCTIONS
Fill a mixing glass halfway with ice. Add all ingredients and stir until well chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass.

This recipe, while from a trusted source, may not have been tested by the CHOW food team.

You shouldn’t believe, my co-worker's step-aunt makes $80/hr on the computer. She has been without work for 9 months but last month her income was USD9023 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read more on this site... http://tux-pla.net/jii

  • The intro implies that this is a modern cocktail from Drink. Just to clarify, it is a vintage cocktail from roughly 1890, created by George Kappeler, Holland House bar, Manhattan, NY.

  • Ick.

Sound like a way to ruin a perfectly good glass of Calvados.

But I never did like Benedictine.
