John Gertsen, bar manager of Drink in Boston, gave us the recipe for this classic cocktail in which vermouth helps balance out dry Campari and assertive rye.
This recipe was featured as part of our New Year’s Eve Speakeasy Party.
- 1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
- 3/4 ounce Campari
- 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
- 1 lemon twist
Fill a mixing glass halfway with ice. Add whiskey, Campari, and vermouth and stir until well chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass, squeeze lemon twist over drink, and discard lemon.
