<introduction>

Tom Waits loves Singapore Slings. That was good enough for me to respect this drink… until I made it using specific brands of pineapple juice and grenadine. However, I got the recipe off of drinkboy.com. Even if we’ll never know if the true original Singapore Sling is the following, OR the Straits Sling, this is still an amazing drink. Enjoy.

By the way, using these specific brands makes a HUGE difference)

add to a shaker in order:

1 1/2 oz of gin ( I used New Amsterdam—it’s cheap and won some SF world spirits gold medals ;)
1/2 oz of Cherry Heering
1/4 oz of Cointreau
1/4 oz of Benedictine
4 oz of Ceres pineapple juice (the BEST substitute for real pineapple, because I don’t have a juicer yet)
1/2 oz of fresh lime juice
1/3 oz (1 centiliter) of Fee Brothers American Beauty Grenadine ( I have tried it with homemade pomegranate grenadine and with this stuff and I like the Fee Brothers better. I got my huge bottle for less than 10 bucks at Surfas in Culver City)
1 dash (1 ml) of Angostura bitters (and NO more)

THEN add the ice into the shaker ( this could take a while to build if you’re anal like me, and you don’t want a watered down sling). Shake & strain into a Collins or Highball glass filled with ice and garnish with a cherry (and a pineapple slice if you got one)
