In Palm Springs and other inland locations in Southern California, supersweet Medjool dates can be seen weighing down palm tree branches for miles, and date-flavored milk shakes are preferred over vanilla and chocolate. We’ve combined ours with chocolate chip ice cream to woo all the date doubters.

Combine 4 to 6 tablespoons milk, 1 pint chocolate chip ice cream, and 1/2 cup coarsely chopped soft Medjool dates in a blender or a food processor fitted with a blade attachment. Pulse 10 to 12 times or until smooth and pourable. Pour into a chilled pint glass, sprinkle with a grating of fresh nutmeg, and serve.
