Tiramisu Dip Recipe
By turning tiramisu into a dip, you skip all the hassle of making the traditional trifle without losing any of the flavor. We liked strawberries and various cookies as dipping instruments, but the dip could also be spooned into individual cups with a few ladyfingers for a quick, elegant dessert.
Game plan: The dip can be made up to 2 days in advance and refrigerated in a covered container.
This recipe was featured as part of our story on summer dips.
- 12 ounces mascarpone cheese (about 1 1/2 cups)
- 8 ounces ricotta cheese (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons brewed espresso
- 2 tablespoons Marsala or Kahlúa
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup finely chopped bittersweet chocolate
- Place mascarpone in a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and whip on low speed until smooth, about 30 seconds. Add ricotta, sugar, espresso, and Marsala or Kahlúa. Increase speed to high and beat until stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes.
- Transfer to a shallow 1-quart serving dish and dust with cocoa powder, then sprinkle chopped chocolate over cocoa. Serve with strawberries or assorted cookies.
does anyone know where to get edible dipping utensils? thanks
To answer my own question, yes it works as a filling for a cake. I layered it with strawberries between chocolate cake. The filling itself is very tasty. I used amaretto because I don't have any Kahlua or marsala. I also used ~5 tablespoons of brewed coffee because I don't have any espresso. The texture was nice. I don't think it had a strong enough coffee taste but it was still good, probably more like cannoli cream than tiramisu.
would this work as a filling for a cake?
Made this for Christmas Eve for 50 people. Oh my was it good. I had a boatload of different cookies to dip and it turns out the best compliment was a thin almond cookie.
turned out great, served the dip with chocolate chip dippers, waffle cookies, strawberries and butter almond cookies from TJ's. Thanks chow and Aida for making my holiday party dish a success!
did anyone else notice that the dip came out really hard? I don't know if I can dip strawberries in it unless it's left at room temp for a couple of hours!~ Made it for my husband's Holiday party tonight and hope this helps, if not I may have to make something else :-(
Wow. I just made this and it was better than we even expected and we had pretty high expectations! I slapped this together for Thanksgiving as an alternative to pumpkin pie and it is totally addictive. It was beyond easy and looks like you spent a great deal more time on it. It's the perfect dessert to serve after a crazy intense dinner like Thanksgiving. I'd love to try making this again with hazelnut liquor and topped with milk chocolate and roasted hazelnuts.
You could take this and make individual dips with a small plate of items to dip (i.e. biscotti, strawberries, etc...)...this would turn into a classy dessert!
My mouth is watering also, what a great Idea. Write back and tell how it is. If I make it, I will eat the whole thing myself!!!
BobB: You're right -- we will recategorize. thanks!
Oh my! Talk about instant drool!!
How about using ladyfingers cookies soaked in Kahlúa as a base?
I'm struggling at work wanting to make this NOW and I dont get off for another 9 hours and have to sleep all day!! Tiramisu is my FAVORITE ever and to be able to make something that taste exactly MYSELF!!! ITS HEAVENLY!!!
Starter, Finisher, hell, I'd eat this with some wafers, cookies, fruit or whatever. Screw dinner, Tiramisu dip for all!
Looks good - but why is this categorized as a starter, not a dessert?
sgogo, "Appropriate Event"? ... What can be more "appropriate" than the fact that you just want it?! Make It! Eat It! ENJOY! There is nothing to be embarrassed about - or any reason to deny yourself!! :-D
I'm definitely making this for my next dinner party! Thank you.
I'm embarrassed to admit how much my mouth watered when I saw this recipe...I'm making this as soon as I can find a remotely appropriate event! Or even sooner, for testing purposes. What a great idea.
Fabulous, so easy & delish!
