Yellow Bicycle Recipe
Deep in the heart of San Francisco’s gritty Tenderloin neighborhood is the creative bar Rye. When a few folks from the CHOW staff made a trip there, they fell in love with this light, bubbly cocktail made with elderflower liqueur, Yellow Chartreuse, and Prosecco.
- Ice
- 1/2 ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- 1/2 ounce Yellow Chartreuse
- 4 ounces Prosecco or cava
- Lemon twist, for garnish (optional)
- Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour in the St-Germain and Chartreuse and stir until well chilled.
- Strain into a cocktail glass and top with the Prosecco or cava. Garnish with a lemon twist, if desired.
I'm with Olav23, St. Germain's way played out.
I want to meet the marketing guys behind this St-Germain stuff! It's showing up in everything. Can I be the first to declare Elderflower cocktails as the "sundried tomatoes" of the 2000s?
Besides, go to chinatown and get a $5 bottle of Lychee liqueur, has the same effect.
The Beehive here in Boston makes a similar drink (subbing in lemon juice for the zest) called the Yellow Jacket:

The bicycle part probably refers to the legend and lore of St. Germain about how the elder flowers are carted down the mountain on bicycles, and has been worked into the names of other St. Germain cocktails such as La Bicyclette.
I'm gonna have to sub le Vert, aussi, but I know this is going to be splendid!
May have to make a Green Bicycle tonight... don't have the yellow Chartreuse, but this looks sublime.
