<long_description>Hearty winter fare that's healthy.</long_description>
 <introduction>

This hearty, healthy winter recipe features quick-braised white beans that taste as if they cooked all day.

What to buy: Cannellini beans are sometimes alternatively labeled as white kidney beans, in case you’re having trouble finding them.
Dried beans can be substituted for the canned beans. Use 1 1/2 cups cooked beans for each 15-ounce can of beans called for.

Game plan: Use vegetable broth in place of chicken broth for a vegetarian version.

This recipe was featured as part of our Cooking with Winter Ingredients story, as well as our Super Bowl Party Playbook menu.

 </introduction>
 <instructions>

Heat oil in a Dutch oven or a large, heavy-bottomed pot with a tightfitting lid over medium-high heat. When oil shimmers, add onion and garlic, season with freshly ground black pepper, and stir to combine. Cook until onion and garlic are golden brown, about 4 minutes.

Reduce heat to medium low and add beans, chard, and broth. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until chard is tender and broth is thick, about 10 minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in parsley, salt, and vinegar. Season with additional freshly ground black pepper as desired.
