Açaí-Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

Açaí-Blueberry Smoothie
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Makes: 2 to 3 servings

Açaí is one of the superfoods that have taken off thanks to keen marketing and good flavor. It’s the base for this not-too-sweet smoothie that will leave you full of energy and assured that you’ve fulfilled your daily fruit quotient.

What to buy: We prefer to use unsweetened açaí pulp, which can be found online or in the frozen section of health food stores. If you use the sweetened variety, you can leave out the agave nectar.

This recipe was featured as part of our Supercharge with Superfoods recipe slideshow.

@oystersallday I won't buy acai from anyone but Sambazon. They have it at Whole Foods and you can order direct. There is very little flesh on the acai berry, which is one reason why it's so expensive. A lot of brands grind up the seeds as well in order to increase the weight and thus you're getting less of the acai than you think. Sambazon doesn't do this.

    What's the calorie/carb content?

  • I like Sambazon, which they sell at natural markets like whole foods. The bummer with Acai is that its pretty pricey. I try to buy a ton when it goes on sale. Have you found any other brands out there? And as for mango I recommend skipping the juice all together-- too sugary! (maybe keeping a chunk or two of mango fruit for good flavor) and pouring in some rice milk instead. It thins the contistency perfectly, and tastes divine. If rice milk is too wild try some unsweetened soy. enjoy.

  • I made this with whole, pureed mangos and it came out in between a smoothie and a pudding. (Still pretty tasty). I went to the store yesterday and saw about 10 different types of mango juice, most of which were made from mango juice (10 to 50%) with added citric acid and sugar, and I found another that was pure mango. Does it make a difference which is used for this? P.S. Acai juice stains as well as blueberries.

  • where do you recommend buying acai? i live in nyc. i am never quite sure if there is a particular acai brand or product that is better than others.
