I make this mix while looking for a ‘something different’ to serve at my cocktail parties.

Mezcal is similar to tequila but it contains a smokey flavor that is absolutely necessary for this drink. If you’re scared of tequila, fret not, because I swear to you, it will be one of the most astounding things you’ll ever put in a glass; and I have the testimonials to prove it.

You don’t need the most pricy bottle of the stuff out there. In Detroit, where I’m from, you pretty much settle with the worst as ‘better than nothing”. Mixed with the juice, it’s still pretty amazing.

  • Take 4oz. of Mezcal (more or less depending on your… let’s call it “sophistication”) and pour into a martini glass, fill mostly full with pomegranate juice and add a splash of orange juice, which is completely optional.
  • Take the glass and empty it out into a shaker with ice and shake.
  • Pour into a chilled martini glass and add the lime zest. You should be able to see the oils from the zest spread over the drink
