Once you try this buttery, light, distinctly vanilla-flavored frosting, you’ll never go back to the can.
INGREDIENTS
- 3 sticks (12 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place butter in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and whisk on medium-high speed until fluffy and light in color, about 4 minutes.
- Reduce speed to low, add powdered sugar and vanilla, and beat until incorporated, about 1 minute. Increase speed to medium high and beat for 1 minute more. Refrigerate in an airtight container until ready to use.
I tend to add a little cinnamon to vanilla buttercream. It doesn't work with all desserts, but for things like pumpkin cake, it's amazing.
I didn't like butercreams until I tried this frosting...I love it! Since the frosting only has 3 ingredients it's important to make sure and use the best butter and vanilla you can find. I also like to add caramelized bananas (let them cool before adding), orange zest or chocolate to mine to give it a new twist.
