Egg Dog Recipe

By mooncho
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: 10 minutes | Active Time: | Makes: 1 serving

There are 10 hot dog buns in a package, BUT 8 hot dogs in a package…what do you do with the remaining 2 buns? Simple…Egg Dog! Putting a spin on an egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich that uses the hot dog bun as the toasted bread. The hot dog bun soaks up the runny egg and makes a breakfast less messy. Simple, delicious and answers everyone’s burning question of how to use up the buns.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 tablespoon of Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 slices of Ham
  • 1 slice of cheese (any type of cheese you choose)
  • 1 hot dog bun (toasted)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Ketchup (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Heat a skillet on medium heat with butter. Cook the eggs with the yolk still a little runny. (Cook longer if you would like your yolk cooked thoroughly). Salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Melt the cheese and ham on top of the eggs. (Bacon can replace the ham)
  3. Place the egg, cheese and ham inside the toasted hot dog bun.
  4. Enjoy!

  • huh! that's pretty imaginative, or perhaps simply a case of "mother of invention"- (no bread in the house other than hot dog buns?) Sounds simple and I bet it tastes pretty darn good- I prefer whole wheat or whole grain hot dog buns but I doubt it would make much difference. Now how do you get those dog buns in (and out) of the toaster? : )

  • I know my kids and husband will love these!!!! Thanks!!
