In a large skillet, heat 4 tablespoons butter and brown the beef. Add the water, bay leaves, and salt. Simmer gently until tender, about 1 hour. Drain the meat and reserve 3 cups of liquid.

Broil the sausage until browned.

In a 2-quart saucepan, saute the celery and onion in the 1/4 cup butter until soft. Add the flour and cook, stirring, until it begins to turn golden. Stir in the beef broth and the cream. Cook, stirring, until thickened and smooth. Add the sausage and beef. Reheat.

In 3 quarts of boiling water, cook the egg noodles and the curry powder. Drain the noodles and arrange on a serving platter. Add the snow peas to the beef mixture and serve over the noodles.

Can be reheated. Can be assembled with noodles in an ovenproof serving dish, frozen, and reheated at 350° F. in the dish.
