Spicy Chocolate Cookies Recipe

Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: 20 minutes | Active Time: | Makes: 2 dozen cookies

Reminiscent of a spiced Mexican hot chocolate and with relatively few ingredients and very few steps, these cookies are easy, quick, delicious and have a unique heat. Plus they’re egg-free so you can eat the dough with no worries.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cups unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • a big pinch of finely ground black pepper
  • a big pinch of cayenne
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl with your hands for 5 minutes
  3. Place the dough over a sheet of wax paper, and use the paper to roll the dough into a log
  4. Unroll the wax paper, and cut off 1/4" pieces of dough with a knife
  5. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then turn them over and cook for another 5 minutes
  6. Cool and serve

Agreed, we have a problem here, Adrienne... Following the recipe, I get a dry brown powder. In the end, I added two eggs to turn it into kind of a cookie dough. The taste is good, chocolate and spices combination works well, but it probably doesn't have much in common with the expected result.

  • I used a whole stick of butter and it was still a crumbly mess.

  • I'm dying to make these, but I agree with hagwoodam - is something missing?

  • No way 1/2 a stick of butter is enough for that amount of dry ingredients-- should it have been 1 and 1/2 sticks? Or is another wet ingredient possibly missing?

  • Ooooh, spicy chocolate! I don't bake, but this gets my vote!
