Buttermilk Chocolate Cake Recipe
My mom has been making this cake for more than 30 years. It is by far the best choclate cake I have ever had. It goes with Buttermilk Chocolate Frosting, which should be listed in this recipe section as well.
- 2 Cups all-purpose flour
- 2 Cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 sticks butter (melted)
- 4 Tablespoons cocoa
- 1 Cup water
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 Cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Mix flour, sugar and baking soda.
- In saucepan, mix butter, cocoa, water and bring to boil.
- Pour butter mixture over flour mixture and mix until well-incorporated.
- Beat in eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and nuts.
- Pour batter into 13×9×2 pan.
- Bake 35 minutes.

What I meant by the frosting "should be listed in this recipe section" is that it is listed - but it's separate. Just search for Buttermilk Frosting. Thanks, mwliechty.
I agree. A buttermilk chocolate frosting recipe should accompany this recipe, or, more accurately, be a part of this recipe. The contributor wanted to include one, so what happened that it was omitted? Otherwise, this cake sounds great. I can't wait to try it.
