Difficulty: Easy |

My mom has been making this cake for more than 30 years. It is by far the best choclate cake I have ever had. It goes with Buttermilk Chocolate Frosting, which should be listed in this recipe section as well.

  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 sticks butter (melted)
  • 4 Tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 Cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 Cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix flour, sugar and baking soda.
  3. In saucepan, mix butter, cocoa, water and bring to boil.
  4. Pour butter mixture over flour mixture and mix until well-incorporated.
  5. Beat in eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and nuts.
  6. Pour batter into 13×9×2 pan.
  7. Bake 35 minutes.

  • What I meant by the frosting "should be listed in this recipe section" is that it is listed - but it's separate. Just search for Buttermilk Frosting. Thanks, mwliechty.

  • I agree. A buttermilk chocolate frosting recipe should accompany this recipe, or, more accurately, be a part of this recipe. The contributor wanted to include one, so what happened that it was omitted? Otherwise, this cake sounds great. I can't wait to try it.
