Slushy Blended Margarita Recipe

Slushy Blended Margarita
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: Under 5 mins | Active Time: | Makes: 5 servings

Blending up batches of these tasty margaritas for your next party is the drinks equivalent of success insurance. We tried time and time again to make this recipe without the limeade, but it just isn’t a blended margarita without it. Even so, this version goes minimal on the sugar and has a nice kick of alcohol. If you still aren’t persuaded to blend it up, here’s a margarita on the rocks.

What to buy: Get the best-quality 100 percent agave tequila you can afford; it’ll taste better, and you won’t be as regretful the day after.

Also, try to use Cointreau or Grand Marnier instead of Triple Sec—they’re not as sugary and have a truer orange flavor.

Game plan: If you chill the liquors before using them, your margaritas will stay frozen longer. But if you don’t have the time, just be sure to drink the margaritas before they melt.

This recipe was featured as part of our Super Bowl for a Crowd menu, as well as our 2009 Presidential Inauguration Menu.

Add a half a can of beer. Trust me.

  • tnilsson has it right. cheap teq., cheap trip. sec. Mine goes: 1 cup teq., 1/4 cup trip. sec, 1 can cheap froz. limeade but dump about 1/4 of the can out, preferably the syrup, which gets rid of a lot of sugar and leaves them just sweet enough. Fill blender with ice and blend THOROUGHLY (no annoying little chips of ice left). Salt on rim, lime wedge, perfection. Important tip: If you're in the heat or full sun I recommend using insulated plastic tumblers or you'll be slamming them pretty quickly to avoid drinking melted, luke-warm margs which will lead to premature intoxication.

  • If you're really that concerned about the potential negative impact that the HFCS in the limeade might have on you're health, then you might want to reconsider the tequila too, champion.

  • A perfect Margarita drink is as follows: Pour Kahula 1-1/2 ounces in a glass, add 1 Ounce of chevz tequila, pour slowly, then add the 151 Dark Rum, slowly, Lambs Navy,it will remove the pants from any girl.

  • Kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a pitcher of these. Haven't tasted margs this fresh since Puerto Vallarta. Thanks for posting this recipe.

  • Say no to limeade. If you need a little bit of sweetness and don't want to go near HFCS, add some 100% pure agave nectar when using fresh squeezed limes. It's available in health food stores and can be used in foods as a sweetener in place of honey. For frozen margaritas it's perfect! An ounce or two does the trick.

  • I am a former bartender and this recipe makes no sense at all. If you are making a margarita on the rocks, by all means use better-quality ingredients. But if you are making a slushy margarita, you are just wasting your money if you use anything other than basic tequila and triple-sec. The nuanced flavors of the expensive brands will get lost in all that ice and your slushy margarita will actually taste worse and more vapid if you use expensive brands.

  • Good to see this recipe. I made very similar margaritas all the time, growing up in Texas. Limeade is actually very good stuff. However, I'd often supplement it with the fresh juice of one lime and some OJ, if we didn't have triple sec. Would use about half a can of limeade for each blenderful of margarita. Nothing better when it's 95 degrees outside.

  • Being an equal opportunity kinda guy, I use the equal parts method:
    1 cup good tequila
    1 cup Grand Marnier
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice(not lemon)
Clear ice cubes, about 1/2 blender full
    HIT IT!

  • We are on a quest to find the best margaritas on a tight $. Last night we made some from a brand called No Worries margarita frozen mix. We used 100 agave tequila. They were excellent. I then went on a search and found this recipe b/c we had frozen limeade in the freezer. In our opinion, not as good compared to the frozen margarita mix. I highly recommend using 100% agave though, even on a budget-it is worth it to us. A splash of Grand Marnier is always good too! I just wish I could find a non-frozen mix that does not contain HFCS! DH likes it on the rocks. The Golden Margarita mix you can buy in the liquor store is fantastic but again-not cheap. Last week we bought limes and made the whole concoction form scratch. 6 lemons for $5. Only got 3/4 cup outta those and made about 1 quart. Not enough. All said and done, a good margarita worth the money you put into it.
