Coffee Sauce Recipe
This sweet, gooey sauce is packed with coffee flavor that’s delicious paired with pound cake or ice cream.
Game plan: For a slacker solution, buy high-quality caramel sauce and whisk in strong espresso or coffee-flavored liqueur.

- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- Combine cream and espresso powder in a medium bowl and whisk until powder is dissolved; set aside.
- Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan and stir to combine. Place over medium-high heat, bring to a boil, and let cook undisturbed until amber in color, about 5 minutes. Immediately add butter and stir to incorporate.
- Remove from heat and whisk in cream mixture and salt until smooth.
On mocha or coffee ice cream is delicious.
I'm going to try pairing it with a chocolate sauce (sort of a dark and tan offering) with crepes this weekend.
Followup: This is delicious! Since it's caffeinated, (I favor Meddaglia d'Oro instant espresso) I've been having it for breakfast over slices of Angel Food Cake. Decadent! A keeper!
I have some sliced angel food cake in my freezer, I'm going to make the sauce and try it with that.
This looks amazing and I am going to try it. Don't know if it will be a success but we are a Starbucks family and I am sure my sweetheart will appreciate the effort. :)
