Bichon Frisé Recipe
The Greyhound cocktail, made with grapefruit juice and vodka, gets Frenchified with the addition of elderflower liqueur. But never fear: Even though elderflower liqueur sounds girly, this cocktail is still every bit as manly as the original.
What to buy: St-Germain is an elderflower liqueur that has won over bartenders. It can be found at high-end liquor stores and online.
We like the subtle sweetness that ruby red grapefruit juice adds to the cocktail. If you can’t find this type of grapefruit, go ahead and substitute white grapefruit, but be forewarned that the drink will be a bit more sour.
- 1 ounce vodka
- 1 ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
- Ice
- 1 lemon wedge
- Combine vodka, St-Germain, and grapefruit juice with ice in a cocktail shaker. Squeeze lemon wedge into the shaker and then add wedge to mixture.
- Shake vigorously and pour over fresh ice into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve.
lol, i wouldn't call a drink called a 'bichon frise' manly.
I thought that Bichon Freise was the name of a small dog????
Greyhounds weren't a very manly drink to begin with. Making it with ruby red grapefruit juice instead of white grapefruit puts it squarely in the category of chick drinks.
The recipe sounds intriguing, but calling it manly? That's a bit of a stretch. Maybe it should be called a cockapoo instead.
