Bichon Frisé Recipe

Bichon Frisé
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: | Makes: 1 drink

The Greyhound cocktail, made with grapefruit juice and vodka, gets Frenchified with the addition of elderflower liqueur. But never fear: Even though elderflower liqueur sounds girly, this cocktail is every bit as manly as the original.

What to buy: St-Germain is an elderflower liqueur that has won over bartenders. It can be found at high-end liquor stores and online.

We like the subtle sweetness that ruby red grapefruit juice adds to this cocktail. If you can’t find that type of grapefruit, go ahead and substitute white, but note that the drink will be a bit more sour.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
  • Ice
  • 1 lemon wedge
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Combine the vodka, St-Germain, and grapefruit juice with ice in a cocktail shaker. Squeeze the lemon wedge into the shaker and then add the wedge to the mixture.
  2. Shake vigorously and pour over fresh ice into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve.

This is a phenomenal drink, but goes down way to easy. Watch how many you drink because the tipsy sneaks up on you. The St Germaine is expensive so I only make these occasionally.

This drink tastes so good but warning it goes down way too easy....Simple to make too. Try a similar drink, one that I also found on this site but gets more stars from me though is: "Sopisticate" Thanks CH!! http://www.chow.com/recipes/11263-sophisticate

This is an absolutely delicious drink! It has become my summer standard. Thanks!

  • lol, i wouldn't call a drink called a 'bichon frise' manly.

  • I thought that Bichon Freise was the name of a small dog????

  • Greyhounds weren't a very manly drink to begin with. Making it with ruby red grapefruit juice instead of white grapefruit puts it squarely in the category of chick drinks.

  • The recipe sounds intriguing, but calling it manly? That's a bit of a stretch. Maybe it should be called a cockapoo instead.
