Elderflower Sidecar Recipe
Adding elderflower liqueur to the classic Sidecar cocktail gives it a nice floral note.
What to buy: St-Germain is an elderflower liqueur that has won over bartenders. It can be found at high-end liquor stores and online.
- 1 1/2 ounces St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- 1 ounce brandy
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau or other orange-flavored liqueur
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Ice
A Sidecar is just a cognac sour, and is typically made in a ratio of 2:1:1 (spirit, liqueur/sweetener, citrus) or 2:1:1/2 or (if using rich syrup) 2:1/2:1.
The above recipe is 2 parts spirit : 4 parts sweet : 1 part citrus. This will be both extremely sweet and dominated by elderflower. There will be little cognac or orange flavor.
Here's a much better balanced version:

St Germain is, in my opinion, over-used. A good elderflower syrup, such as Darbo, is a better addition in most cases.
