Añejo Manhattan Recipe
Adding tequila to a classic Manhattan sounds blasphemous, but Nick Tarsi, the bar director at Boulder’s Zolo Grill, does just that.
What to buy: Navan vanilla liqueur is a vanilla-infused Cognac made by Grand Marnier. It can be found at high-end liquor stores or here.
- 4 parts añejo tequila
- 1 part Navan vanilla liqueur
- Dash sweet vermouth
- Dash bitters
Chandler... this would be true, except this recipe isn't a manhattan with tequila... it's:
4 parts tequila : 1 part vanilla liqueur: dash bitters : dash sweet vermouth.
which seems a far cry from:
2 parts rye : 1 part sweet vermouth : dashes bitters
Not trying to be a grump... it just seems like this drink deserves it's own name (sort of reminds me of the vodka and fruit juice "martinis")
Danoots, your typical Manhattan (depending on how dry you like it) is whiskey (I like a nice rye) and sweet vermouth. Yank out the whiskey, replace it with a smooth, complex añejo and there you go! Tequila Manhattan.
For the love of Tijuana, don't use a tequila blanco for this! Not even a reposado! A good añejo has all the smoothness and character (if not more) of a good whiskey.
clinky clinky.
sounds delish to me, will try it out at the bar tomorrow.... thanks!

It does sound like a nice, sophisticated cocktail. Still, my take on an añejo Manhattan is significantly different:
4 parts Don Julio añejo
1 part sweet vermouth
3 dashes Tabasco Chipotle
Shake all ingredients hard with ice in cocktail shaker. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with maraschino cherry.
Interesting sounding drink. I'm curious as to how this has any relation to a Manhattan, though...
