Blackberry and Cabernet Caipirinha Recipe
A culturally confused cocktail, to say the least, this drink combines elements of Sangría and the Caipirinha, then adds a twist. It’s one of the most popular drinks at Cantina in San Francisco.
What to buy: Cachaça, a sugarcane-derived spirit with a 500-year history, can be found at most well-stocked liquor stores.
Use a well-balanced, affordable Cabernet Sauvignon that will not overwhelm the other flavors in this cocktail.
- 1 cup blackberries
- 2 medium limes, quartered
- 6 ounces cachaça
- 2 ounces Cabernet Sauvignon
- 1 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 3 medium limes)
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice (from about 1/2 of a medium orange)
- 4 ounces Rich Simple Syrup
- 2 ounces cranberry juice
- Ice
- Lime and orange wheels, for garnish
- Combine the blackberries and quartered limes in a large pitcher and muddle until well crushed.
- Add the cachaça, Cabernet, lime juice, orange juice, simple syrup, cranberry juice, and some ice and stir to chill thoroughly. Garnish with lime and orange wheels and serve.
Made this yesterday for son's 2nd birthday party- I called it "Under the C is for Caipirinha" (spongebob theme) and it was a hit. I believe the recipe means 4 blackberries for muddling- I used about 2 oz per the comments here. It was fantastic and a big hit! I freehanded the 2nd batch and used to much (51) cachaca so I added more of the fruit juices and simple syrup.
Excellent combination of ingredients but I agree with Babycakes that the volumes seem to be a little bit out here. I'd suggest around 12 Blackberries would give a better ratio to the other ingredients.
I love traditional Caipirihinas!!! This seems to be a nice refreshing twist! I am confused about the first ingredient---4 blackberries??? Not that I can't see beyond a recipe to make it "my own" but 4 blackberries sounds too trivial? Could this be 4 oz. blackberries? Even the picture shows several of them in the pitcher and they're not on the list of "garnishing", so it seems that only 4...+READ

Even the picture shows several of them in the pitcher and they're not on the list of "garnishing", so it seems that only 4 individual blackberries for the entire recipe is not enough. At the same time, I don't want to overpower the drink in assuming there should be more...-COLLAPSE
sounds amaaazing! will try this asap
I love blackberry's...definitely would love this too I think
