Orange CHOW-lius Recipe

Total Time: Under 5 mins | Active Time: | Makes: 4 drinks

For many, being a teenager in the ’80s meant hanging at the mall and consuming as many cups of Orange Julius as possible. As a nod to this frothy, orangey drink, which remains one of the best takes on a smoothie ever, we created the Orange CHOW-lius. Made with blood orange juice, it’s a more mature version of the original, but we totally get it if nostalgia requires you to make it with orange juice.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup blood orange or orange juice
  • 1/4 cup high-quality coconut milk
  • Juice of 1 medium lime (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Ice
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Combine all ingredients, except ice, in a blender. Fill the blender with ice to the 3-cup mark and blend on high speed until smooth and frothy, about 1 minute.

  • And the option of a raw egg!

  • In my recollection, Orange Julius had some vanilla (or the fake stuff) in it somewhere
