Similar to a Spritzer or a wine cooler, this Iberian cocktail is very refreshing. La Casera is the Spaniards’ preferred brand of soda mixer, but Sprite or 7UP is a fine substitute.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ounces dry red wine
- 2 ounces lemon-lime soda
- Ice
- Lemon slice, for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
Combine the wine and soda in a tall glass or cocktail shaker. Serve in a rocks glass over ice and garnish with a lemon slice.
I've found my favorite combo is to use a Texas Sweet red wine (Ste. Genevieve) and combine it 50:50 with HEB's Grapefruit Soda
We just got back from 10 days in Andalusia, mostly Sevilla, and I drank this stuff every night. But they make it with Tinto and either orange Fanta or lemon Fanta. Loved it!
Also works great with orange soda. Another drink to try if you like this one is a calimocho--red wine and coke.
This is one of my favorite imports from Spain. I like to use Newman's lemonade with a little seltzer or soda on top.
Also try red wine and Coca-Cola for Calimotxo, a similar Basque drink.
