Chile-Infused Tequila Recipe

Chile-Infused Tequila
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: Under 5 mins, plus 1 to 2 days for infusing | Active Time: | Makes: 1 (750-milliliter) bottle

Add a bit of heat to your next Tequila Sunrise by using your own chile-infused tequila. We also love this fiery tequila from Public Restaurant in New York City in a Red Chile–Guava Margarita.

What to buy: Look for small, dried red chile peppers; if you can’t find them, substitute fresh serranos.

This recipe was featured as part of our DIY Holiday Gifts Advent Calendar.

  • I really want to make bloody marys now.. lol

  • 1-2 days is not nearly enough, in my opinion. I've been doing this for a couple of years now and use 7-10 *fresh* jalapenos (depending on how hot they are) -- cut them into quarters lengthwise, deseed (but do not derib), and stuff them down the neck of the bottle. Let it sit for three weeks to a month. Agreed with taude; I would definitely not use quality tequila for this. Sauza Gold is my choice.

  • I'm not sure it's worth spending the $50 for nice tequila. A $20 bottle of Sauza Blanco is good enough, and my friends loved it! (I don't see the point on wasting good tequila that can be sipped in drinks where you're infusing it with chili peppers and lots of juice.

  • How about frozen chiles? I have a bunch...

  • add and pinapple makes it sweet and spicy -- great for shots and unusual margaritas

  • Silver, definitely. 100% agave, and not aged (anejo), but buy high quality. I made this for a party and it was fantastic! Sweet with a spicy chili kick! Will definitely make again1

  • Any thoughts on silver or gold tequila?

  • NYchowcook: Definitley use dried chiles. We tested this using bird's eye chiles and they provided a nice heat.

  • fresh or dried chiles? preferences for type?
