Grapefruit Spike Recipe
Bloody Marys can be hard to stomach after a rough night out; sparkling wine is more manageable for some. This bubbly concoction combines grapefruit juice, orange liqueur, and sparkling wine for a lighter take on a morning cocktail.
This recipe was featured in our New Year’s Day Brunch story.
- 2 cups pink grapefruit juice
- 8 ounces orange liqueur, such as Grand Marnier or Cointreau
- 1 (750-milliliter) bottle chilled sparkling wine
- Combine grapefruit juice and orange liqueur in a tall pitcher, and stir. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
- To make the cocktail, add 3 ounces of the grapefruit mixture to each of 8 champagne glasses.
- Divide sparkling wine evenly among the glasses. Serve.
A pretty drink and what a nice combination of flavors~
Love the glass too!
yes, ney. it is like a mimosa except we made this with orange-flavored liqueur and grapefruit juice. enjoy!
Looks an aweful lot like a Mimosa.
this is a great idea for picnics. plus i love everything grapefruit. i should mix this at home, drink it like it's sodapop and have a buzz all the time. mmmm.... gewd
I had a "grapefruit martini" recently at a local, very excellent restaurant. All they did was use freshly sueezed juice with a premium vodka. They rimmed the glass with something they called "grapefruit dust" which they said was dehydrated grapefruit rind pulverized with orange rind and sugar.
I've been pretty obsessed with grapefruit lately, so I will take this recipe as a sign to keep on endulging.
Nice: a not-too-boozy Champagne cocktail. Chilling the non-wine ingredients is a good idea: I'd suggest chilling the flutes, too, and maybe adding a dash of bitters (Angostura or orange).
This sounds great to start with on Super Bowl Sunday! We will try it .....
