Full Moon Punch Recipe

Full Moon Punch
Difficulty: Easy | Total Time: 10 mins | Makes: About 20 servings

This pumpkin-hued party punch, developed in the CHOW Test Kitchen by mixologist Duggan McDonnell of San Francisco’s Cantina, tastes of fall, with hints of apple and clove. It’s not too sweet and is deceptively strong—perfect for serving at your next bash. If you can’t find Velvet Falernum (a clove- and lime-infused liqueur), try making your own. We think this recipe is a great stand-in.

The Full Moon Punch recipe was featured as part of both our story on The Return of Punch and our Punch Recipes photo gallery.

Applejack isn't apple brandy. It's hard apple cider which traditionally is left out overnight when the temperature is well below Zero. You then break through the ice and pour out what hasn't frozen. This IS Applejack as taught to me by my Yuper elders in Northern Michigan and later re-taught to me by my sourdough curmudgeon of an uncle in Alaska north of Delta Junction. By the way, this recipe is fabulous! And I agree with jblagg who made his own velvet falernum -- this is always best when you hand-craft it yourself.

  • I made this for my halloween party and it was a big hit. I had to make the velvet falernum myself but it was worth it. The falernum and the punch were both really unusual and delicious.

  • Laird's Applejack is widely available, Laird's bonded is noticably better and only slightly more expensive

  • It's available at BevMo as well if it's in your area.

  • Cully: Most high-end liquor stores carry Applejack or other apple brandies, such as Calvados.

  • is applejack avaialable at most liquoe stores or is it more of a specialty ingredient?

  • It's still shockingly strong, I assure you.

  • While we do enjoy a stiff one every once in a while, Tulipano, you're absolutely right. What sounded like WAY too much alcohol was really a bug in our publishing software, causing ingredients to repeat. We've fixed this problem.
    By the way, you're hired!

  • Perhaps the author was drinking a bit too much of this concoction? Or are there really 6! bottles of white rum and 4 cups of applejack in this recipe?
