Full Moon Punch
This pumpkin-hued party punch, developed in CHOW’s test kitchen by mixologist Duggan McDonnell of San Francisco’s Cantina, tastes of fall, with notes of apple and clove. It’s not too sweet and is deceptively strong—perfect for serving at your next bash. If you can’t find Velvet Falernum (a clove- and lime-infused liqueur), try making your own. We found this recipe on eGullet and think it’s a great stand-in.
This recipe was featured as part of our story The Return of Punch.
- Combine rum, applejack, Velvet Falernum, Campari, cranberry juice, orange juice, lemon juice, and ginger ale in a large pitcher and stir until mixture is well blended and chilled, about 40 times. Pour over ice in a punch bowl; top with lemon, lime, and apple slices; and serve over ice in a punch glass.

Perhaps the author was drinking a bit too much of this concoction? Or are there really 6! bottles of white rum and 4 cups of applejack in this recipe?
While we do enjoy a stiff one every once in a while, Tulipano, you're absolutely right. What sounded like WAY too much alcohol was really a bug in our publishing software, causing ingredients to repeat. We've fixed this problem.
By the way, you're hired!
It's still shockingly strong, I assure you.
is applejack avaialable at most liquoe stores or is it more of a specialty ingredient?
Cully: Most high-end liquor stores carry Applejack or other apple brandies, such as Calvados.
It's available at BevMo as well if it's in your area.
