Root Beer Float

Treat yourself to this classic soda fountain specialty, made with CHOW Root Beer. We like to use Mason jars for our floats, but you can also use the classic frosty mug.

INGREDIENTS
- 2 large scoops vanilla bean ice cream
- Chilled CHOW Root Beer, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place 1 large Mason jar or glass mug in the freezer until frosted.
- Place ice cream in the mug and slowly pour in root beer.

The instructions for how to make a rootbeer float are, respectfully, wrong. If you put the ice cream in first the rootbear that follows foams up waaaay too much due to the lower temperature of the ice cream. The hot ticket is to pour the rootbeer in the glass (very slowly), then gently place the ice cream on top.
The object of the game to get a slight separation of flavors from the ice cream to the rootbeer. If you want to mix it up then what you really have is a rootbeer shake.
To me, I like to taste the rootbeer with it's carbonation, along with the ice cream. No matter how gentle you try to keep the flavors apart they mix together. Yet, my way of doing it affords a more interesting taste adventure...........In my humble opinion. Jimmy V
I used to work at an ice cream shop, where I learned this handy tip for making root beer floats: put a tablespoon of ice cream in the glass first, then slowly pour in the root beer while tilting the glass. This should cut down on the amount of foam. Then, as Jimmy V said, gently place a scoop or two of ice cream on top.

I always thought that if you put the Ice Cream in the glass FIRST then add the root beer or some kind of soda its called an ICE CREAM SODA. Soda or root beer topped with the scoop of ice cream is a FLOAT (because you are floating the ice cream on the top). A glass with soda or root beer with a scoop of ice cream wedged onto the top edge of the glass then knocked into the soda is a SIDE CAR.

float? Oh my! They are great. I realize that only a handful of States sell BIG RED, but they ARE great!! Root beer floats are my number one favorite.
