Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

A favorite American spice mixture, pumpkin pie spice is used in autumn’s pumpkin, sweet potato, and squash pies and is a Thanksgiving tradition. Use 1 to 2 teaspoons of the mix for each pie.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

I agree with wm1; this makes a LOT of spice mix and, unless you're making pumpkin lattes for parties, you'll be throwing most of it away. There's a reason stores sell small jars of PPS.
Personally, I always grind cinnamon and cloves from whole, to get that full fresh flavor. So, it's worthwhile to me to tweak a "one pie's worth" version.
Also, what's going on with including salt?
how is that cheaper? pre-made pumpkin pie spice gets used maybe a couple times a year. chances are most people already use these spices on a regular basis as it is.
