Lemon Verbena Drink Recipe
Makes:
About 1 liter
This refreshing beverage was given to us by the current White House pastry chef back when he was living in New York.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 liter still mineral water
- 2 lemon verbena stems
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- 3 tablespoons honey
INSTRUCTIONS
- Bring mineral water to a boil in a medium saucepan and remove from heat. Stir in lemon verbena, mint, and honey.
- Infuse for 10 minutes, then strain. Cool and serve over ice.
I just tried it with whiskey, and it was delicious.
As someone who is pregnant and pretty damn sick of my usual repertoire of "water? or fizzy water?" I appreciate having non alcoholic options on here, especially those that don't sound too sickly sweet. Going to try this this weekend!
sounds like it would be a nice cocktail-what liquor would best suit it?
I make this drink all the time - add a splash of cider vinegar (or lemon juice, or some such) to give it some acidity. Dee-lish.
Great idea, great drink. Lemon verbena is easy to grow in a sunny area, well drained soil. It would probably do well in a patio clay pot, too. Check a local nursery for starter plants in their herb section.
