INGREDIENTS
  • 24 medium uncooked shrimp (about 1 pound), peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons white sesame seeds, toasted
  • 24 small metal skewers or wooden toothpicks (if using toothpicks, soak them in water for 30 minutes beforehand so they don’t burn in the oven)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon powdered cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon light sesame oil
  • 2 scallions, cleaned and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Toss shrimp with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Dip one side of each shrimp in toasted sesame seeds. Skewer with a toothpick. When oven is heated, place skewered shrimp (sesame seeds on top) on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake 5 to 7 minutes, until shrimp are firm to the touch.
  2. For the dipping sauce, put remaining ingredients into a bowl and mix until blended. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve with the warm shrimp.

  • With minor changes, this recipe would be a winner. I would fix it with olive oil, use parsley and/or basil instead of the cilantro, and skip the soy sauce. Cilantro has been so overdone that I can scarcely stand the taste of it. About 35 years ago a half a teaspoon of the freshly chopped herb would flavor a dish for four people. Now people use. • This is a delicious, easy dish to make, although I would recommend adding a little less soy sauce to the cilantro-lime dip, since the shrimp is already salted. My husband stated the dip was good, but too salty. The sesame, cilantro and lime and a very complimentary balance in this recipe. I would definitely serve it again.

  • We loved this dish. My husband found the sauce addicting. This is definitely a keeper and will score lots of compliments at the next party!

  • This dish was very easy to make and easy to impress. I found the sauce to be a little disappointing. The mayonnaise overwhelms the cilantro.

  • Super easy!

The only thing i would say is double the amount of the sesame seed mixture since you may run out.

The sauce is amazing and even my cilantro-loathing husband liked it.
