Makes: 1 drink

Crustas go back to the end of the nineteenth century. They are named for the sugar on the rim of the glass.

INGREDIENTS
  • Sugar for rimming
  • 2 ounces brandy
  • 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
  • Dash of bitters
  • 1/2 ounce triple sec or curaƧao
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Twist of lemon peel
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Rim a chilled cocktail glass with sugar. Shake the brandy, maraschino liqueur, bitters, triple sec, and lemon juice well with ice; then strain into the glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

  • though the recipe is right there is no reason this drink should be red, there is nothing red in it. the idea is that the peel wraps around the entire inside of the glass

  • Maraschino liqueur is made from sour cherry pits: maraschino is to cherries as curacao is to oranges.

  • I think it is basically a side car with some cherry juice added.
