Beer Buster Recipe

Makes: 1 drink

Generally speaking, the beer cocktail—or, more apropos, the beer confabulation—was devised by a conspiracy of malefactors whose goal was to defile the palate. Granted, the Black Velvet, created to commemorate the death of England’s Prince Albert in 1861, is one of the few exceptions, but the singular purpose of most of these mishmashes is to stave off sobriety as quickly as possible.

Beer cocktails are catching on because they have recently been touted as a good marketing tool for bars that otherwise do not feature beer. As beer cocktails continue to gain unprecedented popularity, even respectable bars are fixing them.

Game plan: If you know how to pour beer, you pretty much have this down already. The Skip and Go Naked, an American frat house classic, is mixed in a garbage pail with a ski pole.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 ounces chilled vodka
  • 2 dashes of Tabasco
  • 1 bottle of beer
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Stir the vodka and Tabasco in a chilled mug; then add the beer.

Variations:

Boilermaker: Pour a shot of Scotch into a mug of beer. Dropping the shot glass into the mug makes it a Depth Charge.

Skip and Go Naked: Mix together however much beer, gin, grenadine, and lemon juice you have.

  • Pour a shot of 151, then light it. Drop the lit shot (quickly) into a pint of Bud. Drink it down all at once. Now that's a Depth Charge.
