The Black Velvet was created to commemorate the death of England’s Prince Albert in 1861.

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 ounces cold Guinness
  • 6 ounces cold champagne (or sparkling wine)
INSTRUCTIONS
Pour both ingredients into a beer glass, but do not stir. Serve immediately.

  • For those of us from the old country, we used to have a 'Poor Man's Black Velvet' which consisted of half a pint of Guinness mixed with half a pint of semi-dry hard cider, preferably draft in both cases. (and forget this strange US custom of 'floating' the champagne on the Guinness, the two should be mixed together!!)
