Really Liking the Black and White Cookies at Craft
I've received cinnamon roll brioches at the end of dinner. Wonder if they are the same..they were delicious for breakfast the next morning.
Craft Recommendations?
YES!!! Go for the john dory. It has been the best fish dish I have ever had. Unfortunately the past 2 times we have gone, it's been sold out.
Venice/MDR Cheap &/Or Unique Eats
Don't forget Tlapazola on Lincoln, cross from IHOP.
Need to buy Ox Tails on the Westside, near SM
I've actually bought them at Gelson's in MDR. I don't see them regularly though.
AXE Venice
You can do takeout...my husband does it all the time. Takeout is better sometimes at lunch especially if it's really busy, which it normally is, and when it is very hot outside..no AC.
Curious About Lucques For Post-Theater Dining
We were being kind of extravagent with our meal. Not ordering a bottle of wine will bring the meal down considerably. I think the wine set us back $100.
It was worth it though. We had a great evening, great food, and great conversation.
Curious About Lucques For Post-Theater Dining
My husband and I had dinner at Lucques friday night and it was amazing. That restaurant never disappoints. Top notch ingredients and service.
I started with an amazing cherry tomato and kumquat salad with greek yogurt. It was one of the best salads I have ever had. For my entree I had the seared duck breast. It was also fabulous. My husband had the bibb lettuce salad and the halibut, which he said was outstanding as well. We ended with the beignets.
It was a great dinner but I agree that Lucques is expensive. Dinner for the 2 of us, 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and a nice bottle of wine, plus tip, was a little over $300.
Mozza - Kids?
We've taken our kids, ages 4 and 7, to Mozza. It was for a sunday luch, w/o reservations. The hardest part was waiting for seats at the bar to open for 4.
Kids loved the food once we were seated. They do offer a "Mozza" coloring page and crayons for the kids so they are prepared for kids dining there.
I wouldn't hesitate taking my kids there for dinner. But only with reservations and on the early side..6pm.
Cafe Brasil recs?
Everything is great at Cafe Brasil. All of the grilled meats are fabulous...lamb chops, dark meat chicken, churasco, pork chops.
They have also opened a new outpost in culver city, on washington. Same menu, much nicer atmosphere, and larger space.

The Counter
They toast the bun? Each time I have gone the bun was cold and hard, as if it were just taken out from the plastic bag.
Fraiche - long review w/ some [bad] photos
My husband and I tried Fraiche this weekend as well. Ordered the oyesters to start and shared the same comment as your friend. A couple of oysters were a tad smaller than they should have been, but they were still delicious.
Our main complaint was with our pastas. My husband had the braised rabbit tortelini and I had the pea raviolis. Both pasta dishes had a crunch to them. They needed another good minute or two of cooking before they were al dente. If they had been cooked correctly they would have both been delicious. The portions were on the small side..but the pricing is adequate for the size.
I chalk it up to the restaurant opening recently. Hopefully they'll iron everything out.
I will definitely give the restaurant another try. What is nice about Fraiche is that it's reasonably priced. Which is not easy to say for the type of food they serve, and being on the westside. Kind of refraiching.
Chef's Table at Providence
You might want to check on the cost of the chef's table first. A group of friends were thinking of doing the chef's table at patina and found out there was a minimum per person. I don't recall the exact price, but it was hefty...something like $300 p/p without wine.
Birthday Lunch in Venice: Joe's, Chaya or ?
I vote for AXE. Simple, clean, fresh, quality food. It just happens to be very loud, and a bit trendy at times.
