New Haven's best sandwich's
Vito's on Center St. downtown New Haven has excellent subs. They open early around 9:00 and I think they close at 3:00. Thay also carry Foxon Park soda. Huge sanwiches $7-8.00 range, subs the same price.
Waterbury, CT - near Palace Theatre
There's a Tex/Mex restaurant called Crossroads Canteena between I84 and Grand St. I'd compare it to Humpreys clientel and prices but Tex/mex. Or you could do like the schools on feild trips to the palace Hometown Buffet. LOL
WEDDING BBQ?? HELP!
Jordans Caterers in Cheshire advertises a pigroast/BBQ. I haven't had this but their other catered stuff is great.
Eating Near Mohegan Sun
Is it just me or has eating at Mohegan Sun gotten very expensive. I went there last night and had an ok meal. Ate at Bubbas BBQ, $9.95 for a quesadilla-1 tortilla fold in half cheese and chicken- four slices. $6.50 for a Guiness at Jasper Whites. I'm not a gambler so I usually don't mind spending $$ on dinner but its not worth it. Sandwiches were all $10+. Is there anywhere to stop in the vicinity of Mohegan Sun to grab a bite to eat either off of 395 or 95 or rt 2 within 20 minutes of the casino. Thanks
What's the deal with Duchess in Connecticut?
The Duchess in Hamden was closed due higher rent. They tried to negotiate a new lease and the landowner raised the rent too much and they walked. It sat vacant for over a year. There's a Brueggers Bagels there now. Right now Duchess is running a 99 cent hot dog special in the Wallingford restaurant. I don't know if it is everwhere or for how long. But with V-day tommorrow.......
New Haven Taco Trucks
I've eaten at the Taco Truck with a Coleman Ave West Haven address on the door. Very good, they have a bright green suace you put on the tacos which is excellent. It taste like cilantro, hot pepper, and vineger mixed in a blender. Some of the trucks can be confusing because there's either no menu or one only in spanish. The english menus advertise head and tripe tacos so I'm not that adventuresome to order off a spanish menu but to each his own. The $1.00 tacos are great and so are the burrittos.
Driving on I-91 in Massachusetts
I don't know what you mean by wonderful but Bubs BBq in Sunderland MA has always been a hit with my daughter. Its not fancy but the food's good. Get off I91 at the Yankee Candle exit and follow rt. 116 towards Sunderland, it's on the right side of the road.
J Michaels Tavern - Wethersfield, CT
My wife and I had a great meal Sun 12/30. I had the stuffed veal, she had chicken, both were excellent. Two entrees with salad and two glasses of wine, the bill came to $52.00. We ate around 6:00pm and it wasn't full. Also stayed at the Silas Robbins Bed and Breakfast around the corner from J. Miecheals and that was fantatic.
Desperately seeking good Mexican food in New Haven area
It may not be gourmet dining but the taco trucks down at Long Wharf are pretty good. Tacos beef/chicken $1.00. No Tex/Mex here most menus in Spanish, most customers Spanish. and no cheddar cheese to be seen. Beef taco just beef, onions, tons of cilantro(used like lettuce), seasonings, and this awsomw green sauce from a tupperware container. There are usually 3 trucks weekdays, 2 marked Ixtapa and 1 from someplace in West Haven. The West Haven one is usually the one I eat from. They all offer beef head and tongue tacos but I haven't gotten that adventursome yet.
Street Carts Near Yale?
Roomba has a cart that is usually on York St across from Au Bon Pain. Burritos about $5.00. There's always a line.
