Authentic Chinese in Kansas City MO
For Japanese, it is hard to beat "One Bite".
They don't serve sushi, but plenty of other
Japanese dishes.
For sushi, I like Kaiyo. The head chef had a
good reputation and they turn out some
tasty dishes.

Authentic Chinese in Kansas City MO
No China town per se. Several Asian markets throughout town. Most Chinese restaurants will have a "hidden menu" that features traditional dishes. All 3 of my Chinese language teachers have eaten at a number of the Chinese restaurants throughout the metro. None of them liked any of the food. They all come from diverse parts of China. North, South and Taiwan. My Chinese cooking class instructor and her husband recommended Lucky Wok's spare ribs. I thought they were OK at best. Maybe an acquired taste. Your best bet. Find a Chinese transplant and get a home cooked meal.
Country Club Plaza (KC) eats
I think many, if not most of the restaurants on the plaza
are open until 11 PM or midnight on the weekends.
You should be ok.
The Classic Cup is a nice breakfast place.
For vegetarian you want Eden Alley.

With the weather in the 60-70's this weekend, I am sure the plaza will be a great time.

I recommend that you head to Oklahoma Joe's for an excellent overall bbq experience.

LC's has fantastic brunt ends. Best in the city IMHO. The service is always very nice.
I am not a fan of Arthur Bryant's or Gates. No doubt that they are landmarks, just not my favs.
All 4 of the above mentioned places are VERY casual. Heck, OK Joe's is in a gas station.
For a bit more of an upscale BBQ experience, try Jack Stack's. They have great baby back pork ribs.

Overland Park
I think you mean the place listed below.
Excellent quality and value. I was shocked
by the size of the tamales. Think Chipotle
burrito size. ;)

Andre's Tea Room -- KC
I eat there once per week. It is a bit on the expensive side for lunch.
The quality has always been very good. I agree that you should get
the carrot salad if available. Skip the green salad. That item is always
lacking IMHO. Overall, a pleasant dining experience.
Moving to Manhattan, KS
My goto place when I am traveling through Manhattan. Decent price
and good food.

Good place to take clients or visiting people. Slightly more
upscale.

I am told they have the best breakfast in town.

Avenues Bistro (KC - Brookside)
I had lunch there once.
The food was ok. They
had some interesting
sandwiches. Slightly on
the expensive side for lunch.
KC and OP(KS) for Lunch
One Bite is always a treat. I often wonder
how they would have fared if they were at
119th and Nall or Brookside or the KUMED
area.
Jfood tries Ngon Bistro - Very Good
I love Ngon. It is a must do
every time I am in MSP. I went
there last week and had the rabbit
appetizer and bbq pork salad. My
friend had the duck Pho. The only
downside. No soup is served on the
patio. The waitress said they were
working out those details and should
have it resolved shortly.
Battle's BBQ in Ames and Nevada, IA
I was travelling through Ames and stopped
at Battle's BBQ after reading many positive
reviews on this forum. I must say that I was
rather disappointed. I get the pleasure of
travelling all over the US and "Battle" really
can't compete with the likes of Memphis
or KC BBQ. Why? The meat was rather
dry and the sides were very bland. I
tried the pork and beef. I had to dump
nearly half a container of sauce on the
meat to bring back some moisture.
Added the rest of the sauce to the
beans to bring some flavor out. The
good points were: the very friendly
service, prompt service and mason
jar serving glasses (just a nice
quirk). Overall, I would not make
a special trip to eat there, but it
would certainly be a better choice
than fast food.
Pizza Fusion- Leawood, KS
Had lunch there today.
The servers were nice.
The food was unremarkable.
I would not make a special trip
to 135 St. for their pizza.
It does give options to vegan
and gluten-free pizza eaters.
For those two groups or S. JO CO
residents, it would be an ok
option.
Kansas City, MO near Country Club Plaza
On the plaza and within walking distance you can you can get breakfast at "The Classic Cup". Jack Stack (plaza location) would be a nice lunch or dinner option. You are a medium distance walk to Andre's, a swiss restaurant and chocolate shop. They have a fixed price menu every day. Always a nice experience. You are not a far drive from "The Peachtree". They serve Southern soul food. They get great reviews. Of course the plaza has several chains as well, PF Chang's, Houston's and etc.... Lots of great choices and I am sure you will get several great ideas.

City Tavern in KC
My last meal there was tasty.
I did have to sit in the bar area, which
I did not care for. The server was nice
and attentive. With that said, I haven't
been back since. It just never comes
up in conversation.

Southern Kansas City - Overland Park
I have had one excellent meal at Edokko and one nightmare meal. I ordered the same dish both times, sashimi. The first sashimi was so good, it reminded me of my time in Japan. A week later, I ordered the same dish and the fish was partially frozen!!! Unacceptable! My friend ordered the same dish and had the same experience. I resolve to give them one more chance before I make my final decision on that place. I will venture out and try their rolls or sushi. Hopefully, it will live up to my first experience.

Kaiyo is my favorite for consistently good sushi.

Edo is very hot and cold. My 1st meal there was incredible.
The 2nd meal was horrible. Funny thing is that I ordered
the exact same dish. You can't serve frozen fish.
87th and Quivira
Ichiban is also hot and cold. Very warm and pleasant
people, but the quality can vary greatly.
Just got back from Ngon Bistro - MSP
I love Ngon!
It is a must when I am in town for business.
Dinner in Hays, KS
These are the two best places I have found.
I prefer Gella's for ambiance and food.

They appear to be gone now. I didn't see the store banner and the place looked closed.
Jack Stack BBQ at Country Club Plaza
I am a big Jack Stack fan. I eat there 3x per month. But, the lamb ribs are very hit or miss. I always suggest that people get the rib platter to sample the lamb ribs. Getting a whole plate can be a big risk.
Dying for a Curry in Kansas City
i agree that Masalas is very tasty. My favorite Indian food restaurant in town.
Sushi Haru, South Kansas City
Whole Foods has fresh sushi. The chefs will even make custom orders if you catch them in a good mood. :)
One night in Kansas City, MO and interested in BBQ
I went to LC's for the 1st time tonight. I must agree. Their burnt ends are MUCH better than Jack Stack's. There truly is a world of difference.
