Dinner in Virginia near I 95

Yep. One of the staff there who's now at pasture, told me it was without any forewarning on Easter.

What cookware item did you *mistakenly* part w/ in your divorce?

I kept the grill and lost the person who could use it. I still came out ahead. ;)

Good, cheap eats around Richmond?

Thank you!

where is the chicken fiesta in the west end?

stronghill (while not the best restaurant in richmond) is a good choice because it is easy to get to off the highway - and back on. and the food is nice as is the decor.

others are good but strike me as hard to get to, park, etc if you're on the road.
Are you staying in richmond or continuing from there - because that'd totally change options!

New Richmond BBQ question...

ok. i know where that is. will have to check it out.

New Richmond BBQ question...

Ben and Jerry's Taste the Lin-Sanity

If people are offended then it's not ok and hurtful. But I would not have meant anything degrading or hurtful about it. It's mass marketing. Of course he's more than that. Of course it's stereotyping. I think it's why it's funny. But maybe because there is still such a chunk of the world who doesn't get that then it's not.

Ben and Jerry's Taste the Lin-Sanity

Ben & Jerry's is trying to be funny. This is what they do. Sometimes that requires pushing the envelope a bit.
I will admit I am not a minority, except as a female which in my profession has often led to people making false assumptions or treating me differently, but I would presume that if someone were going to make an ice cream about me when I become a famous basketball star (if you're thinking about investing, don't. It's not likely to happen) I would think they would focus on things that make me stand out from every other basketball star. Frankly Cincinnati chili flavored ice cream sounds disgusting but that or something to do with red hair and freckles would likely be what they pick. So it would be trite and silly. And 8 year old me who hated getting made fun of for those things might have had a problem with it. But... Grown up me is ok with who I am and if you want to make strawberry ice cream with chocolate chip freckles or some such silly thing with a picture of Annie on the cover, cool. I'd still be flattered. If you just asked me to design a flavor of ice cream - which would be way more likely lavender, lemon, & honey or something - that would be a different company. It's not what Ben & Jerry's does.
Sometimes we just need to learn to laugh at ourselves, to embrace our differences, and to stop presuming everyone is out to get us. Because when we approach the world defensively, no good can come of that.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #14 - 02/08/12 (Spoilers)

+1 not a bad reason to watch that show at all. :)

BBQ in Richmond!

that bums me out. i don't get ribs. i get chicken and pulled pork or chicken. but i've always liked them.

Nice dinner in Richmond Sunday before Valentine's

i think food at both boathouse and conch republic is average at best. view is fabulous.

SPOILER ALERT: ICA: (Zakarian vs. Sawyer)

oh. sorry. missed that one.

SPOILER ALERT: ICA: (Zakarian vs. Sawyer)

i thought that you had to know going in that zacharian was gonna win.
honestly i thought both looked pretty good. sawyer's looked great but like i said, there was no way the new ica was losing his first match.

and even in the competition everyone did rave about the taste of his food. so i doubt it was awful. ;)

Quick lunch not far from 95 near Richmond

nice. didn't know the second one.

The boulevard exit in Richmond is a pretty fast on/off. Buz & Ned's BBQ is pretty famous right there. People go back and forth on how good it is but it's not fast food fast food and it's there so it fits the bill. Will keep thinking. Not a lot of great places really close to the highways... at least not that I can think of.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #11 - 01/18/12 (Spoilers)

i liked the one of samuelsson too. and even though i find him insanely annoying the photo of scott conant is rather nice. who is with the sunflowers? that one just made me happy with the sky and colors. and i liked the breast feeding one too.
agree just lovely photos.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #11 - 01/18/12 (Spoilers)

The Roosevelt

Funny. :) That one has been at the top! Thanks.
Wondered about magpie and pasture and... i just heard about someplace else but now it's left my mind.

The Roosevelt

So perhaps I'll move it down on my list of places I must go. hmmm... now who needs to be on the list?

Night out with the girls in Richmond

comfort is loud. nice vibe but tough to talk i'd be afraid.
have only been to bonvenu once. liked it, but didn't notice big tables so i might depend on the side of the group. doesn't mean they don't have them obviously. selba has hit or miss food, but when it's good, it's quite good and the vibe is perfect for that.
will keep thinking.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #10 - 01/11/12 (Spoilers)

she said she wasn't allowed to attend sleepovers, socialize, etc. just family not ethnicity. but would explain A LOT IMHO about her social unease.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #10 - 01/11/12 (Spoilers)

i don't think she is only into her own food. she focuses on that. but it sounds like it was fantastic. and while a "little overcooked" the judges didn't slam the halibut. just that it was the worst dish of the night. they didn't seem to like it conceptually/tastewise either. and again, grayson said to lindsay that she didn't think it was the best method...
would want to be stuck on an island with bev... no. but i think that she's decent. and that if people were nice, she'd be fine on a team. the judges obviously like her food.

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #10 - 01/11/12 (Spoilers)

+1 (well, not because i lke that it's that way...)

Top Chef Texas - Ep. #10 - 01/11/12 (Spoilers)
