Drinks near WD-50
I have early dinner reservations for WD-50 on Friday with a friend from out of town and want to take him to great place or two for drink afterwards. Would prefer something low-key (i.e. NOT super loud and crowded) with interesting cocktails that's walking distance or so from the restaurant. Any ideas?

Marea or The Modern?
Wow, so many conflicting responses! This is going to be a tough choice. Our reservations are currently for the Lounge at Marea (as opposed to the Dining Room). Will that make any difference in our experience there at all? I just want to make sure it's not going to be too casual...we're planning on dressing up and going all out for the night.

Marea or The Modern?
A good friend of mine is coming in to town from Western NY for two nights in October and I want to give him a great foodie experience. We're eating at WD-50 on Friday night at his request. On Saturday, I have made reservations at both Marea and The Modern, but am not sure which to choose. Any suggestions as to which would be the better choice? (ps- Money is no issue for the meal and we are both extremely adventurous eaters).

Best tasting protein powder?
I'm looking to add some (preferably whey) protein powder to my morning fruit smoothies, but have found in the past that I absolutely loathe the taste of the few I've tried (very chalky, artificial tasting, etc.) and figured that it would be best to consult some other foodies on the topic. Any suggestions?

Quiet birthday dinner for 8 suggestions?
I'm new to the city and looking to have my birthday dinner somewhere this upcoming Wednesday on either the Upper East Side (where I live) or downtown (and easily accessible from the UES) for eight people in a place that's not loud (i.e. where we can have a conversation still).
Cuisine options: Creative/New American (I'll try anything, but we'll have two vegetarians in the crowd), Greek, real Italian, Tapas/Small Plates, maybe upscale Mexican...I just want some really memorable food. Looking for entrees that average in the mid-20 dollar range or below.

My friend is getting married next Halloween and has put me up to the task to help her choose a place for a reception in the city. It needs to fit 150 people and not break the bank. in terms of cost As for cuisine, she wants something more traditional (as in, no Asian, no Italian, etc...think new American). Any ideas to help me out, because I'm totally stuck...?

We are organizing a party where we'll be serving fried chicken (courtesy of a great Ina Garten recipe) and multiple types of pie. I'm trying to fill in the rest of the meal with some lighter options, but am getting a bit stuck. So far I'm also serving sweet potato biscuits and lemonade, but I'd love to get some healthy veggies in there somewhere...thoughts?
