Louis XVI restaurant great for private parties

I had the pleasure of eating a fine meal at Louis XVI Restaurant on Bienville between Royal and Bourbon. I was part of a group of folks on a tour. I expected mediocre food as is usually served at events of this type, but was pleasantly surprised at the elegance and quality of the meal. Service was impeccable and the food was excellent. I understand that they only do parties and it is evident that they have perfected such events. Just wanted to let my Chowhound folks know about this gem in the quarter if you need a place for a dinner party. I have no idea the price because it was included in a day long tour.

L'Espalier for lunch

get there as fast as you can! It's a wonderful experience. The price is a bargain as well. Your lady friend is sure to enjoy it. I went this summer and couldn't believe how good it was.

Boston suggestion for 12-26 needed

Thanks for the suggestions. I had forgotten about Brasserie Jo. I stayed at the Collonade once and had eaten there. will check out the wine Cellar, too.

Boston suggestion for 12-26 needed

Will be in Boston for the holidays. Planning to have dinner at L'Espalier on Christmas Eve and at a relative's house on Christmas day.

Attending the Boston pops on the 26th for the matinee (4:00 pm) performance. Need a recommendation for dinner after the concert. Not too pricey since will have spent so much at L'Espalier, but something walkable from Symphony Hall (or maybe a short cab ride.) I feel that it would be a good idea to have a reservation somewhere since that seems to be a busy time in the city.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Louis XVI Restaurant Francais?

I hope they are open. A meal there is part of a holiday tour we are doing. The website shows some pretty pictures and I was wondering about the food. It' will be a "pre fixe" for about 30 people. Hope it's good! Thanks for the information.

Louis XVI Restaurant Francais?

does anyone know about this place? It's in the St. Louis Hotel. Is the food any good?

Zapp's flavors

you got my curiosity up so went to the site and found that the TigerTators are: CAJUN CRAWTATOR - The taste of a Cajun boiled seafood feast that goes crunch and your mouth goes wow! (cut and pasted from their site) These are very spicy. I think the Who Dat's are regular flavor as malenky stated. Click their FLAVORS button and see all of the flavors they have. I have, in the past, called them to place a "custom" order.

Great Place walking distance

Regardless of what others may say on this board, I like Palace Cafe for price and value. Service is good, too. Make a reservation. It's an easy walk from the Doubletree. It's on Canal a few doors down from the Marriott.

Dallas hound coming to N.O. Show me where the food is at!

Now that you stand corrected here are a few of my suggestions:
I visited recently from Baton Rouge (just up the road) and had a pretty decent meal at the Palace Cafe on Canal near the Marriott. It was reasonably priced and the fish was fresh. I had the Andouille Crusted fish. They also have a pretty good wine list, too.

I mention this because you mentioned that you are price conscious on this trip. Make a reservation if you plan to go or you could probably eat at the bar without one.

I also like Ralph's in the Park. It's a cab ride from the Quarter, but worth the trip. Especially good is their brunch on Sunday. Again, make a reservation.

Camellia Grill is a good choice for hamburgers and pecan pie served with an attitude! lots of fun, cheap and very New Orleans. I am not sure if the St. Charles streetcar is running that far, but used to be able to take it all the way to the turn on Carrollton and go to the Camellia. Your hotel could advise you on this. The Grill is a dive, but the locals and visitors love it.

I'll leave other suggestions to the natives. Those are just some of the places that I enjoy when I go to New Orleans about twice a month.

Oh...almost forgot...on Bourbon you will find Galatoires which is a staple and not to be missed.

Victoria Inn, Lafitte

you have proved your point. Hooray! We still had a great weekday escape there last week...for sale or not.

Victoria Inn, Lafitte

maybe they changed their minds, because is open and I just stayed there two nights and had dinner in the restaurant.

Victoria Inn, Lafitte

not for sale at this time. We just returned today and we didn't see any for sale signs. my husband and I write a travel column for a BR magazine and we went to do an article. We talked to the original owners who are the innkeepers. It's definitely worth a drive. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open other evenings from 6:30 to 9:30. There are only about 15 tables, so I would recommend a reservation if driving from NO.
Next time I go I am planning to skip the main dish and have a bowl of that Bouillabaisse. It was that tasty!

Po Boy fixings

gotta have the mayonnaise. Some also pile on the sliced onions, too.

Visiting from Los Angeles weekend of 11/2

Haven't tried it, but someone from New Orleans told me that the restaurant at the W (Zoe's) is good. May be worth looking into when you arrive.

dinner recs needed nov 27 and 28

Try the Palace Cafe (a Dickie Brennan property) just two blocks from the Ritz on Canal. Make a reservation. The site used to be a music store that sold pianos and organs. They kept the spiral staircase and the original ceiling fans. I recommend the Andouille Crusted Fish Crystal Buerre sauce. (Crystal as in Louisiana Crystal hot sauce) Just ate this on Tuesday night of this week and the fish was drum. The dessert we liked the best was the chocolate cannoli filled with chocolate. Divine.
If you do have to wait for a table, sit at the bar. Kind of fun people watching, too. Ask to be seated upstairs overlooking Canal.

Victoria Inn, Lafitte

Just spent a couple of nights at the Victoria Inn and had dinner one night at the Restaurant there. Chef Matt Regan is wonderful. We loved the Creole Bouillabaisse. The saffron seasoning was unexpected and truly tasty. I also had grilled bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer that was served on top of canneloni beans that tasted cooked in some sort of pork based sauce. The white chocolate bread pudding was divine. It was not the typical heavy dessert I had tasted before at other places. It was light (probably beaten egg whites were used) and served warm. Perfect meal on a cool October evening in the most out of the way place I have ever been. I am going back. It was just 20 minutes from the Quarter on Highway 45.

shrimp and eggplant casserole [Moved from New Orleans board]

go to foodnetwork.com. There is an Emeril recipe that I have tried. No soup.

Nov. Birthday Trip

I recommend Ralph's in the Park for Sunday Brunch. Be sure to make a reservation. You would really enjoy the ambience and the food.

Commanders has a good lunch, too.

Lafayette, LA Recommendations?

Blue Dog is my favorite. I often drive from Baton Rouge to eat there. I love the food and the ambience. Love seeing the original Rodrigue's hanging on every wall.

Ruffinos, Baton Rouge?

We do have a reservation. My husband loves pork chops, so glad to know they are good there. I am a seafood person, so will try the redfish. Thanks so much!

Ruffinos, Baton Rouge?

Has anyone tried Ruffinos in Baton Rouge? Trying to find out what is good. Am planning to eat there this weekend.
Thanks.

Pecan pie to travel with?

here is the phone number for The Kitchen Shop: 337/662-3500

Thanks for the information on the cajunpecanhouse.com

Brennan's - HUGE dissapointment

For brunch, I recommend Ralph's in the Park. It is a Brennan property, but is excellent. They have live music on Sundays. Make a reservation so you won't have to sit at the bar as we did. (we didn't mind sitting at the bar, but would have been more relaxing to be at a table)

Where to eat in Breau Bridge?

Never been to Poche's, but have been to Cafe des Amis several times and had a great meal each time. The location is quaint and I think the food is worth the drive. I would recommend a reservation. Brunch (breakfast) is their specialty. The cajun music and dancing are fun, too.
Not far from Breaux Bridge is Grand Couteau where there is another good place, Catahoulas. It's good, too. (North on I-49) Catahoulas is closed on Sunday night.

Pecan pie to travel with?

not a pie, but The Kitchen Shop in Grand Couteau (near Lafayette) has a wonderful southern confection calledf Gateau NaNa. It's a buttery torte filled with pecans. They ship them around the world. I have ordered them several times for my Northern friends. I believe they have a web site.
Or you could purchase Bergerons Pecans (new Roads, LA) and take them with you to bake a pie when you arrive. I am not sure if they have a website, but you can call them and have them sent. These are also available in grocery stores this time of year.

Good food near Greenwell Springs?

too bad about your Tsunami experience. Kind of weird! Also, who knew that Pho Q. would be closed on a Thursday? Also kind of strange.
Glad you did get to try a couple of things while here.

Lafayette, LA Restaurants

Most restaurants probably have a steak dish on the menu. Maybe you could move this message to the New Orleans board and get some recommendations.
I am from Baton Rouge (between New Orleans and Lafayette) but only know of seafood restaurants in Lafayette.

Tsunami, Baton Rouge

I suppose you have already been to BR and left again, but there is another place for sushi in Baton Rouge that just opened about 3 months ago. It's on the corner of Bluebonnet and Perkins and is called Tokyo Cafe. Really tasty! They also have a hibachi counter.

Good food near Greenwell Springs?

Pho Quyhn is the correct spelling and it is on Florida Street not Airline. It's past the intersection of Sherwood Forest on the South side.(your right coming from downtown area) It's very tasty. I love to have lunch there. The waiters are very patient and have some good suggestions for those who are less adventurous.
