BLT Prime - cook w/ a cold?

Was there last night and it's Very Very expensive for what you get. The noise level was tremendous. I wouldn't go back because I could have paid the same money and eaten the tasting menu at Jean George.

LOVED BENOIT!

We went to Benoit Friday night and had a fantastic time! It was BYOB, lack of liquor license, so we visited our favorite wine shop, appellation, on our way to mid-town. I read some reports that it was expensive, but compared to other restaurants in the area it was a fantastic bargain. The onion soup is top notch, if not iconic - better than balthazar's and just as good as artisanal's but not as sweet, lots of cheese that lasted to very last spoonful. All portions were generous. We both did the duck which was done wonderfully and also added on sides of fries and pasta. Everything was great! This is iconic french cooking. Nothing experimental, just the old brasserie standbys all done excellently. Loved it! Perfect for lunch after the MOMA.

Dovetail Walk-Out

I hate it when you have a reservation, you arrive on time, and then you are rewarded by being shown the bar in order to pay for expensive drinks you never asked for in the first place. If I wanted to go to a bar, then I wouldn't be at your restaurant because I would be at a bar.

Looking for great hotel restaurant

Gemma is good, not fantastic, but good, I guess for hotel italian, it is very good since I don't know of any other italian restaurants in hotels that are better. I liked Adour, a very good french restaurant, but I'm not sure that is what you are looking for.

RUB must haves and must avoids?

I love rub too, but I have had some misses as well. I definitely will be returning often, but I can only handle all that fat once a month.

Is Chelsea Market worth a trip

I live nearby and it's a great place to do your shopping, but really I don't think of it as a tourist attraction, but rather as a neighborhood amenity. Check it out but really the city itself is a great marketplace to explore.

Last Night at Adour (valentine's day)

I was in paris two weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Last night at Adour was equally wonderful. The food was sublime. It was very traditional french, nothing very cutting edge, but it was done superbly. We did the wine pairing which also was excellent. I could have stayed there all day eating and drinking. The service was pretty good, almost perfect, and reminded me of Taillevent (in Paris) a little (gracious, formal, and Friendly). I can't go into detail here about each dish, but I can say that the Fois Gras was excellent as were the accompanying lentils, and the Lamb and cous cous (?) was also perfect, especially the cous cous (?) or what ever that delectable side dish was... cous cous and some amazing flavor that snaps in your mouth. I would definitely return to this restaurant; it reminded me of eating in Paris.

Help! Best Mexican below 59th?

Thank you, I'll try the two on the westside. I think I've been to Tehuitzingo back in the late 90s when they used to sell pre-made enchiladas to go..?

Morandi- worth going? What to get...

Funny, there were a million bad reviews here a couple months ago. Of course, there were a few people who liked it. I for one will never return to THAT place again.

Market Table.

Great Restaurant. The beet salad was good, earthy, refreshing, but could have used a little more goat cheese. The Crab Cake was AMAZING! Better than home-made. Hushpuppies were addicting. Reminded me of Cookshop, but better. Definitely highly recommend this place, and I will be returning soon.

Bombay Talkie -- Any thoughts>

I like the food, but the attitude of the place can be off putting. Also there is the issue of the communal table. If you are a walk in, then count rubbing elbows with strangers. In my opinion a cut above the typical east village restaurant.

BOTTINOS in Chelsea?

I wrote the restaurant an e-mail this morning and someone has already replied asking for more information. I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but rather than just write-off a cool neighborhood restaurant, I thought I would try to address the issue. I hope this makes a difference. On their website they talk about the great food, beautiful dining room, and welcoming service so it looks like the intention of the owners are in the right place. Again, I hope this makes a difference.

BOTTINOS in Chelsea?

I was at bottino's last night and experienced the worst kind of service or lack there of. Has anyone else had a problem there? I live a few doors down and treat myself to their great food a couple times a month; however the service is always a little cold and last night it was down right icy. Was it because we didn't order appetizers (we're both on diets)? Was it because we ordered the delicious Spaghettini @$16 and a bottle of fizzy water instead of the snapper @$28 and bottle of wine? I don't know, but after taking our order, our waiter never returned - meaning no bread, no water, no parmigiano cheese, no how is it? The food was delivered by the busboy and that's it? Do restaurants have minimums that are unspoken?

Jean-Georges -- vaut le voyage ***

The day before my all out luxury trip to Europe for my fortieth birthday I had dinner at Jean Georges to sort of prepare myself for the 3star restaurant meals I had arranged for in Europe (months in advance). I loved Jean George, but after eating at the best restaurants in Amsterdam ( La Rive *), Florence (la giostra ), Paris (Taillevent *** at the time, L'ambroisie ***, Grande Vefour ***), and Brussels (Comme Chez Soi ***, The Black Truffle *) I have to say that Jean George was about equal to 1-2 stars. Not to say it wasn't great and wonderful because it definitely is, but the places in Europe might be a little more refined ; however, Jean George is great and I had a wonderful and memorable time there and would go back in a ny second, but the highlight was the wine not the food for me. I would equate it somewhere between La Rive in Amsterdam and Comme Chez Soi in Brussels which has 1 and 3 stars respectively. BTW I gained thirty pounds on that trip, no kidding, happy birthday to me. Since then I managed to get a reservation at PER SE, now that is *** 3 stars!

Review - Le Zie (172 7th Avenue @ 20th St, 212 206 8686)

I started going there almost five years ago, and have noticed a slight decline in quality, but overall the place is pretty good for the prices. I must complain that on several occasions my partner and I suffered some serious heart-burn indigestion from the spaghetti, and lasagna so we stay away from those two. I love the Monkfish too and often order that as well. We live across the street from Pepe Giallo and next to Bottino's so this place is a nice middle ground of price and quality for the chelsea nabe.

SF Chowhound has one night in NY - help me choose between...

AT THE MOMENT, I WOULD GO TO "11 MADISON PARK." IT'S ONE OF THE BEST PLACES GOING AT THE MOMENT. REALLY THIS IS A PLACE FOR RIGHT NOW! GOTHAM IS GREAT BUT IT'S HEY DAY WAS OVER 10 YEARS AGO, SAME GOES WITH THE TAVERN, BUT MADISON PARK IS REALLY COOKING AT THE MOMENT AND IT'S DINING ROOM IS REALLY SPACIOUS WITH 20FT CEILINGS. YES IT'S FORMAL BUT THE FOOD IS SO GOOD.

Magnolia Bakery

I lived a block away in the mid nineties before the lines and enjoyed their individual flourless chocolate cakes, and their individual cheesecakes in various configurations, and their slices of german chocolate cake were my favorite, back then the cakes were definitely moist and yummy, a slice of the german chocolate cake with the coconut and pecans could be a meal. I never liked the cupcakes much because compared to the above mentioned they weren't the best thing to get. Now I go to BILLY's in chelsea not far from were I live now.

What do you do when a favorite restaurant slaps you in the face?

I don't blame you. It just takes one experience like that to ruin a restaurant. I hate when the staff treat you like cattle and follow rules with indifference to the actual reasons there are rules in the first place which in this case is probably to better serve the customers.

Suggestion in RIVERSIDE? PLEASE- I am VISITING!

Last time I was there I did the MISSION INN and I was not impressed at all, way over-priced for food so poor in quality, but the service and wine was excellent. I don't mind paying big bucks, my favorite restaurant is per-se in nyc, but food should be quality if you are going to charge alot. I will look into duanes and mario's, any others? This is Riverside just an hour or so outside Los Angeles, this area should be covered under LA area and not California in general which is too big.
