Last Dinner Before Baby
Thanks everyone. We are settling on Willow in Arlington. I haven't been there and heard the food is great. It'll be our last nice meal out for a while so I am really looking forward to it:) Will probably head somewhere else for some desert and (decaf) cappuccino afterwards.
Last Dinner Before Baby
Our baby is due pretty soon and my husband and I wanted to do a "last dinner before the baby comes". Where would you go? I want to enjoy a long, sit down dinner before we have a little baby we have to tote around everywhere. Preferably in DC or VA.
Any thoughts on something romantic and fun?
Shan Masala Tips
Wow- your blog is exactly what I have been searching for. i absolutely love this. You have a new follower! I'll let you know as I make the recipes.
Shan Masala Tips
I have added an egg as a binder before- worked really well for me. It worked on the grill just fine.
Shan Masala Tips
Thank you so much for this- it's so helpful. Do you have tips for the biryani mix? How do you cook that? I'd like to try it Sunday night.
Shan Masala Tips
I'm not sure if there are any other users of Shan Masala powders out there- I tend to add in a tablespoon here and there for flavor to Pakistani/Indian dishes along with some other spices. I've found that if you follow the back of the box, you'll usually end up with a mess.
Will you share what your favorite Shan masala spice box is and any helpful tips? One of mine is the Chicken Tikka Masala but I only add about 1/2 the packet, along with yogurt, ginger/garlic paste, and some lemon juice in the chicken marinade. I followed the directions on the box one time and it was really salty.
Tonight, I've got Chicken Karahi on the stove so we'll see how that one turns out (I am starting to cook Pakistani/Indian dishes more myself - usually my mom spoils me rotten with Pakistani food but I've got to learn someday!).
Turkey temp HELP!!
I never let it go over 165 or it gets too dry. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes after roasting before cutting into it. It sounds like it's fine to eat to me.
Recruiting All Ideas for Cheap Homemade Dinners!
Tuna casserole- all you need is pasta, cream of mushroom, tuna cans, frozen peas and some cheese. Tends to last me a few days.
Also, go to any local indian or Asian store and stock up there. Prices are much more reasonable.
Mangos.....ideas please!
Mango Lassi! But it's a drink, not a dessert.

Drinks for a Pregnant Lady
Thank you all so much for these suggestions! They all sound delicious! And HillJ, thanks for that article. I plan on making that cherry drink tomorrow! Will let you know how it is:)
Drinks for a Pregnant Lady
I really REALLY miss my glass of wine a night. Don't get me wrong, i am very excited about babies....but I really miss my glass of wine. I'd appreciate any ideas you may have for pregnant lady "mocktails" I can sip on in the evenings. Especially anything with lemon....for some reason I enjoy anything sour right now.
New Food Network Show: Extreme Chef
While there are still some shows I enjoy watching, most of the shows have become reality TV junk. What happened to teaching how to cook? i still like Bobby Flay and Paula Dean. But mostly, I don't learn much from the channel anymore.
Crystal City/Old Town Recommendation
The Light Horse (very kid friendly with delicious food).
Eamonn's for the fish and chips.

Tea Online
Thanks for the suggestions- I just ordered the fine tea sampler and also the oolong sampler. I have gone to Teavana out of convenience but it's too expensive since i drink tea about 3 times a day. My family drinks chai from scratch everyday) so I can't just can't pay that amount!
Tea Online
Uptontea is a great site! Exactly what I'm looking for - what teas are your favorites? So many to choose from!
Tea Online
I love tea but i can't afford the loose leaves they sell at $60/ half a pound. Does anyone know a website that sells good tea for less?
Calories in a bowl of PHO in this area [moved from DC/Baltimoreboard]
Thanks Spelunk. That sounds about right. The sodium is out if this world but i guess i'm not too surprised. Just drink lots of water that day!
Shirlington Restaurants
I like Carlysle - always seems to hit the spot for a comfort meal. Has anyone been to PING yet?
Christmas Food Traditions
Sounds like it was a blast:) Good that you have such great memories of your grandpa. We always had curry on Christmas:)
Underrated cooking ingredients in America
Goat is my favorite meat. It's great at Pakistani and Afghan restaurants.
I got a juicer...ideas?
I took your suggestion and just tried :
4 apples
1 beet
a handful of parsley (mine was dry and didn't give off much juice unfortunately)
4 carrots
Very earthy and delicious! I'll have to try ginger in there next time.
I also have a compost pile in the backyard and am throwing the pulp in there. I wonder if I can use the carrots for cake or some muffins.
What's the best 'cheap eat' you ever had in DC?
Bob - I got both of those as well as the artichoke pizza. The artichoke was good but didn't shine in front of the Real Margherita - just as good as the pizza I had in Italy!
What's the best 'cheap eat' you ever had in DC?
Keith's list is pretty good. I'd add Pupatella for pizza and Pho Hot in Annadale.

Do you remember if they offered their steak on the menu last year?
DC Restaurant Week-January 2011
I went to Zaytinya last year. I'd recommend going outside of restaurant week and getting what you want. Personally think there are better deals out there.

I got a juicer...ideas?
Thanks Val! I did youtube after reading your post and found tons of fun recipes to try. My next one is going to be the Martha Stewart Green juice (it sounds very interesting). Have you done pineapples yet? I am wondering what else I can add to it...maybe pear?
I got a juicer...ideas?
So for Christmas/my birthday, I got a juicer which I am really excited about. I have thrown in pretty much everything that can possibly be juiced and am loving it:)
I am not the most creative so I would love your ideas on juices and ingredients. So far, my favorite has been :
1 orange
1 apple
2 carrots
Thanks in advance!
