Italian Restaurant Fairfield County
Try Biagio's Osteria at Ryders Landing in Stratford. Great imaginative Italian food in a setting reminding me of many trattorias in Italy. Great seafood, I've had the salmone in puff pastry and the linguine with clam sauce is excellent. Most of the pasta is hand made in the restaurant. Service is usually very good. Also the appetizers are great. The fried Calamari and the cheese tasting platter are both very good. I usually eat at the bar. Joe the bar tender is fun.

Smoked carp?
I remember having smoked carp as a kid but can not find it anymore. Is smoked sable the same thing. I remember the orange colored skin and the sable is the same color....The only difference if the sable is purchased sliced (like Zabars) and the smoked carp was usually purchased as a piece.

Gotchef- gourmet food truck
Got off the train from NY last night and picked up dinner from the new food truck in Milford, Gotchef- The food was amazing!!! I had the lamb ossobucco, so tasty, it melted in my mouth and my SO had the meatballs in a rich tomato sauce served with the most delicious polenta I have ever had in my life! Make sure to grab a dessert too, the apple gallette topped with cannoli cream was out of this world. Who would have thought a little truck in a train station parking lot would be serving dishes even my Italian grandmother would love! Will definitely be a regular here! When I got home I went online and saw it was owned by Biagio Barrone of Biagio's Osteria in Stratford, no wonder the food is so good! Ciao!

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?
Just to add another destination for those looking for a good bowl of pho..I was driving thru the center of East Hartford and from the corner of my eye saw Vietnamese Restaurant. Turned around and walked into a bright and clean dining room. The places is called Le's and it is located @ 980 Main St in E. Hartford. Not to be confused with pho 501 also on Main St. The owner, Le waits on all the customers and her family does the cooking. She is a delightful women and treats you like your are her best customer. She has an extensive menu with all the traditional Vietnamese dishes including a long list of soup. The Pho is great with all the accompanying garnishes. I would recommend anyone in the area give this place a try. At the end of out meal Le hand delivers a piece of chocolate cake that she proudly states I made this myself. You will love her. Unfortunately I live In Milford so this is not a place I would go for a quick dinner but give it a try.

Need A Restaurant in Milford for Tomorrow Night! PLEASE HELP.
Try Conte's for good Italian food. I have spend a lot of time in Italy and find his food is very authentic. The decor of the restaurant even looks like the older neighborhood places in the small towns surrounding Rome. This trip I had the broccoli rabe with sausage and penne pasta. All the pasta is made fresh on premises and is cooked perfectly. Also try the bruschetta with tomato and white Italian beans, Delicious. My only disappointment was the wine list. Need some good Italian reds that will compliment the great food. Garlic knots are great. Price reasonably and worth a try

Best Breakfast Sandwich in Southern CT
Bagel bar on Bridgeport ave in Milford has great breakfast sandwiches
Good bagels in New Haven?
Try Bagel Bar on Bridgeport ave in Milford. It is near Milford Hospital. Great bagels made on premise by baker/owner Richy. Boiled and baked everyday. Has about 20 varieties. Try the bagel and Lox sandwich for about 8 bucks. Delicious
Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?
Try Pho Saigon on Wood Ave in Bridgeport. It is probably the best I have had. I lived in Boston for a while and use to like Pho Pasteur in Chinatown and this is as good or better. The place is owned by a Vietnamese women. Most of her customers are Vietnamese and this is the real stuff. Have had the house pho about 100 times but have tried some of the other dishes from her limited menu. Also try the Bun #21 or the Bahn Mi the Vietnamese sandwich. The restaurant is on the bottom floor of a house and I believe the family lives upstairs. Not the best neighborhood but never had a problem. Simple place but excellent food for about 8 bucks an entree. Great experience and very nice and accommodating people.
Good Vietnamese places in CT?
Try Pho Saigon on the corner of Iranistan and Wood ave in Bridgeport. Have spent years eating PHO in Boston's China Town especially PHO Pastuer. This is better. Don't be surprised if you are the only one speaking english... This is the real stuff and the family that own this are very sweet people.
Making paella in New Haven, need rice

Probably the best Sushi experience ever
Went for some sushi last night with friends who have been raving about Jerry-Sans sushi bar. It is in Daiko restaurant which is behind the parking lot at the Nissan dealer on route 34 in West Haven. What a find. Jerry's sushi is unbelievable plus he is a funny, entertaining guy. We drank and ate, and laughed all evening. Never had Sake Bombs before (had 3) but make sure you buy one for Jerry. He gets funnier the knife moves faster and he just keeps putting new thing on the bar for you to taste.
I thought I was knowledgeable about all things sushi. Been eating the stuff for 20 years. He asked if I wanted the white tuna, I said I don't really like it. He said you probably have not had "the good stuff". He was right. The was not the bleached out looking fish I have eaten at other places. This was not bright white. It looked more like yellow tail but with a much different flavor. Melted in my mouth. Monk fish liver, Never had it before. Jerry makes it himself. Taste like a combination of foie grois and smoked white fish. It was delicious. On to the mackeral, again said not my fav.. You never had the mackeral imported from Norway. Again surprised.
Everything we ate was great. Try the rolls. Crunchy spicy tuna roll, Jerry roll, Jimmy roll. Prices seem in line with other sushi bars but quality was much better. If you are a sushi fanatic you have to visit. Engage Jerry and you will have an unforgettable meal.
Ciao

Milford Pizza and Mexican Food?
I have been driving by this place on Naugatuck ave in Milford CT for some time and desided to give it a try. I figured this was some greek pizza place that decided to put some nachoes and tacos on the menu. SURPRIZE This place is for real. The mexican food is very good and inexpensive. I have been to several of the Mexican places recommended here in Bridgeport and the food seemed authentic, but this place was very very good. I believe they also have a pastor to cook the meat and that was the attraction in the Bridgeport places.
I had the taco platters which contained 3 fresh tacos of your choice. The choices were beef, chicken, pork, sausage, spicy pork, and beef tongue (lengua) and a mixed meat taco. I had the spicy pork, beef and beef tongue. All were delicous especially the tonge. very tender melts in you mouth. The tacos were on warm corn tortillas with lettuce, tomato, onions and fresh chopped cilantro. The were accompanied by a salsa verda and a red sauce. Salsa verda was great, red sauce must have been enchiladas sauce it was ok. SO had enchiladas with salsa verda it was excellent served with rice and refried beans,
I went back a few days later for lunch and had the lunch special which was the same size as the regular order but for 6 bucks. It was great. I had the bistec encebollado which was steak, onions, with rice and beans served with hot corn totillas on the side. I was also very good.
So next time your driving down Bridgeport ave in Milford CT (route 1) and crave mexican food... don't stop at tne Taco Bell. Keep heading toard Bridgeport for about 1 mile turn left on Naugatuck ave then a quick right into the parking lot behind Milford Bank. Give it a try.
Can't tell you about the pizza and never will. This is real Mexican food served by probably real Mexicans ( or at least South Americans)
ciao for now
Love Pho Boston..now where?
Try Pho Saigon on Ward St in Bridgeport . Small family run, great vietnamese food including pho and about 15 other noodle soups. It is probably one of the best I have ever had including China Town in Boston.
Alternative New Haven Pizza
Tried them all over the years and imho you can't beat Zuppardi's in West Haven . Great apizza and nice people.
Tendga in Milford??
Has anyone tried Tendga in the new strip mall on route 1 in Milford?
Italian Ham Pie, New Haven County
Stopped by Zuppardi's for pizza last night.. The pizza rustica looked fantastic. It was very heavy with three or four meats and 3 cheeses. I thought the price was a bit steep at $25 bucks but I ordered one. I am sure it will be great. Everything I have ever eaten from there has been excellent.
Happy Easter
Real Fried Chicken
Does anyone have any suggestions for good fried chicken in the New Haven -Bridgeport area. I fondly remember the Chicken Coop near the Hartford train station. Any ideas?
Pho in/near New Haven?
I think the place in Middleton is Pho Mai on Main St. pretty good but not as good as pho Saigon in Bridgeport..
