ChefJune, please, share your secrets. Have made numerous attempts over the years with varying success, close but no cigar!
Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries coming to Red Bank
Sigh... Agreed. Is it really too much to ask for decent quality meat that doesn't need to be literally cooked to death and a cook skilled enough to be able to cook to order?
I guess it's another indication that I'm too old because I remember pride in a exceptional product and customer service to boot! This age's business model: lowest quality ingredients yielding an average (at best) product presented by minimum-wage workers giving the highest possible profit margin to the investors.
Another establishment destined for mediocrity at best or, more likely, failure. My bet: gone in 2 yrs.
Rant = Off, Apologies = On
Edit: No disrespect meant to minimum-wage wage earners, only meant to illustrate that profit is highest on the list of priorities.
Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries coming to Red Bank
A brief mention in Red Bank Green, coming to the former Zebu Forno location. Anybody have any experience with this chain? Are they another "Five Guys" style joint - eat our burgers well-done or don't bother coming!?

New Restaurant Tinton Falls/Shrewsbury?
It is will indeed be a Sonic. They have a Facebook page: "We're hoping for December to open."
New England Hot Dog Company
Been to the one in Freehold a couple times. Can't say anything bad about the place, not a hot dog aficionado so can't give an educated opinion. Interesting topping opttions. The best I can say is that it's definately worth going, giving 'em a try and forming your own opinion. Apologies for the lack of an in depth review.
Le Peep, Shrewsbury - Closing
Received the following email earlier this evening:
Dear Friend,
After more than three years Le Peep in Shrewsbury will be closing. Our last day will be Sunday, October 30th and - as always - it would be our pleasure to serve you and your families during our last week.
We have loved our time with Le Peep, and we have had an awesome run. There are simply too many people to say thank you to, and so many great experiences to recount. We are grateful to all our customers, staff, family and friends. You have made the Le Peep experience unforgettable.
Please visit our Edison location at Wick Plaza, 561 Highway 1 South. Should you have any questions give us a call at 732-933-3555.
We hope to see you this week to say good bye in person and if you can't make it to Le Peep - thank you and we'll miss you.
Sweet and southern-New BBQ restaurant in Oakhurst
Just finished some takeout from here and the best I can say is: "Meh." Which is unfortunate, if this review was strictly based on the sides it would be better. We ordered the fried chicken meal for three and an add-on of a pound of smoked beef brisket.
First the good: my wife said the baked beans were "out-of-this-world", the mac & cheese was tasty, a little on the oily side with numerous cheeses in it. The coleslaw was coarsely chopped, very creamy and kind of sweet, almost... marshmellowy.
The not-so-good: the family meal for three was described on the phone as "1 whole chicken" - two each of legs, thighs, breasts and wings. Not an overabundance of food, a fairly small bird with the stingiest breasts I've ever seen. The chicken was overcooked, thighs tough, breasts dry and had little or no seasoning.
The "smoked beef brisket" (sliced) while fork tender had no smoke flavor whatsoever and little other flavor. Even the end slices I ate had no seasoning. While I'm in no way claiming that it was cooked this way it kind of reminded me of boiled meat.
Tired of the local Chicken Kitchen, in between KFC's and just a little too far for a quick evening meal from Belmar and Asbury I had high hopes for some different fried chicken. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

Breakfast, ME, Saturday morning I95 State line to and incl Lewiston/Auburn Recommendations please
Three adults plus 1 - boisterous 9 month old. Don't want to go to far off the beaten path. Would rather not go the standard Perkins/IHOP route but open to any exceptional suggestions. I know there are a few places in Portland that people seem to recommend but I don't want to stray that far off the path. Thanks very much in advance!

Looking for really good Chicago style deep dish pizza in Jersey
Having been on this quest myself for many years I feel the need to try and clarify what a "Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza" is and is not. Born and raised in Monmouth county I've also spent a few years in the midwest. Many restaurants around here tout what basically amounts to a round sicilian pizza in a pan as a "Chicago pan pizza". The pie has a typical Sicilian style thick crust (thick meaning a good 1/2 to 1" thick). This is NOT Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza!
One midwest restaurant likened their Deep-Dish pizza to being more like a quiche. I've even gone the Lou Malnati Taste-of-Chicago mail order route but you'd think there would be someone in the tri-state area that could produce an authentic Deep-Dish Pizza. I understand that most east-coasters would look at a traditional Deep-Dish pizza as an abomination but with the various transplants around the area I would hope such a pizzeria could survive.
The Chicago pizza is most often made using what many (but granted not all) around here would consider "upside down" order of assembly. The crust is shaped to the bottom and sides of the pan like a quiche or a cheesecake (NOT the thickness of the pan). Next is a quite generous topping of cheese followed by hearty tomato sauce which has the consistency more of a stewed tomato based pasta sauce than the thin strained pizza sauce used locally. Toppings are mixed in with the sauce or layed on top.
30 years ago or so there was a branch of My Pi (the mathematical symbol Pi) on Long Island, but I've since found out that the whole chain of My Pi's have been reduced to just the original hole-in-wall in Chicago.
Please, if you do find a REAL Chicago-style Deep Dish pizza anwhere locally keep us informed!
Gary & Lenny's New York Delicatessen, Lawrenceville
Went there this afternoon as well. I ordered the over-stuffed pastrami on rye, my wife ordered the corned beef on rye. Both sandwiches were very good. The pastrami had a fair amount of fat and was very tasty. Very thin sliced & very tender, I'd have to rank it as one of the best pastrami sandwiches I've ever had. I've had fattier (at Irv's in Neptune), and prefer a fair amount, I think Gary and Lenny's was just right. Tasted my wife's corned beef, which seemed a bit leaner, and to me not as flavorful. FYI, according to the menu either sandwich is available "made lean 1.00 additional". Enjoyed the pickle bar as well, and of course, the Junior's cheesecakes.
One caveat, ordered the pastrami "overstuffed" and at a 30% upcharge I expected more meat. While there was a difference in size between the pastrami and corned beef, it wasn't 30%. Next time I'll save the $3 and just get the regular sandwich, it probably would have been enough.
Pom Pom BBQ on Route 33 in Millstone
Visited Pom Pom for a late lunch yesterday, can't say much more the already excellent reviews. I had the pulled pork sandwich, tasted great w/a vinegary sauce & lotsa meat on the bun! My wife had the 1/4 rotisserie chicken (dark) which she thought was a little dry. We shared a few ribs which were excellent. The Chocolate chip and the peanut butter cookies would have made the trip worth it on their own merit! Sides (mac & chz, spinach, and roasted potatoes) were all very good.
One thing to note: there are items on the printed menu that do not appear on their menu board (i.e, the corn bread, the char-broiled chicken, and the skirt steak). Take your time and study well!

+1 for Guido's. Personally, don't think Jersey Mike's even compares.
