Old Homestead in AC closing?
Someone struck up a conversation with me while wearing a Borgata t-shirt and mentioned they heard Old Homestead Steakhouse was closing? Just wanted to check with all you other foodies if you heard anything? I would be really disappointed since that happens to be my favorite place to dine at while at the Borgata.
Thanks!

Need a good bakery in the Central Jersey area
Hi all,
Need to get a birthday cake and do not know of any good, creative bakeries in the central Jersey area. I live in Manalapan and have not been overly thrilled with the bakeries around here. Can anyone recommend one?
Thanks!

Eurasian Eatery, Red Bank
Hi-was just there a couple of weeks ago. Loved the place and can't wait to go again.
restuarant at the borgata...
Have not been to AC in a bit-going next weekend. Did they do away with Ombra? Ate there before-food was good but way over-priced.
Red Bank-can anyone recommend a good restaurant?
First off-before the food review, I need to say that Chris Botti at the CB Theater was wonderful! Maybe some of you from the boards were there and hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did. Now on to the Eurasian Eatery. Four of us got there for 6 pm and were immediately seated. The place was rather empty at that time but it filled up in less than an hour. We started off with some apps-roasted red pepper hummus that was served with some pita bread and crudite and also the Japanese Chicken Yagatori served with a side of tasty dipping sauces and crudite as well. Both dishes were good. Also, you are not getting presentation here-the meals are served very simple-which is fine by me since I've been to restaurants before where the meals look spectacular but taste horrible. After apps we split a couple of salads as the waitress recommended not to over order. We ordered the soy ginger vegetable salad and the tempeh vegetable salad. Both were the same-the tempeh being the only difference. The dressing was delicious. A light dressing that paired well with the veggies and tempeh. Up to this point the service was going very well and then we noticed people that came in well after us were getting their entrees first. When the waitress finally brought out our meals it was close to 7:30. She apologized and explained that the kitchen messed the order up a bit. Given that the place was really crazy at that time-most of the people there were off to the show at 8 as well-we accepted her apologies and finally got to enjoy our meal. Orders were the veggie meatloaf with an onion espagnole sauce and brown rice, the macao roast pork and shaslick pork chops served with a citrus herb stuffing and espagnole sauce as well and the final entree was the macadamia red snapper served over brown rice-snapper was lightly sauteed and smothered in a macadamia sauce. Extremely tasty but a little heavy on the sauce. Overall, all the meals were very good and you could not beat the price! 95 bucks plus a tip! We will definately be returning. Thanks again!

Just wanted to say thanks to all for the recommendations. Looks like we are going to try the Eurasian Eatery for the evening. I will keep all of the other places in mind for during the summer months when I am looking for a change from the usual restaurants in my neck of the woods. Will report back to the list after the Chris Botti show next week. Thanks again all and have a great weekend!

Going next week for a show at the Count Basie and wanted to do dinner before. Looking to get a recommendation for a good place to eat-and if possible a BYO. Thanks!!
Real Mexican Food In New Jersey
Oh wow-sorry but I so have to disagree here. I was happy to see a local mexican place opening and even happier to see they delivered. So I picked up the menu and ordered steak fajitas, some corn fritters and coconut flavored shrimp rolls. Let's start with the fajitas-I have had fajitas in Mexico, New Mexico and many other places and NONE ever had cauliflower, green and yellow squash and broccoli included with the peppers and onions I am accustomed to. The fajitas had absolutley no taste to them as well. The coconut flavored shrimp rolls tasted like they were soaking in Hawaiian Tropic sun tan oil-blech! The only thing good were the corn fritters. I promptly threw out the menu. If you want really great authentic mexican I suggest you try the Grub Hut in Manville. They also have great BBQ. http://www.grubhutbbq.com/
Borgota in AC - any dining recommendations?
Old Homestead had the biggest steaks I have ever seen! Food was excellent as was the service. My dogs were extremely happy with the doggie bag I brought home as well. Love Bobby Flay's too. I have always had a great meal there and also great service. The raw bar there is very good also.
Borgota in AC - any dining recommendations?
While I agree that the atmosphere is nice and the food was good, they are on the pricey side. I paid 28 bucks for an entree of rigatoni bolagnese-while it was good-it was not 28 bucks good. The portion was small to say the least and I have had better at my local italian restaurant/pizza place.
Best Birthday Restaurant in AC??
I will second Angelina's recommendation. I have been to Bobby Flay's numerous times and the food is always fantastic and the service outstanding. While the steaks are excellent-so are some of the other entrees they offer. The rack of pork was done to perfection and for apps try the tuna tartare or the blue crab salad or something from the lobster bar. Reservations are recommended.
Any good French restaurants in the central NJ area?
Well, I promised a follow up after the dinner. There was a change of venue since we were going on Friday night and wanted to find something a littler closer to home then Chez Catherine. Went to Bienvenue in Red Bank. All four of us agreed that this would not be a place to return to. The restaurant is very small and intimate. We were greeted warmly by the owner (she is the only waitress) and she promptly opened our wine and placed it in ice for us. Water glasses were filled right after that and well, that was where the good service ended. We had to ask for bread-which must have been cut hours before serving since it was somewhat difficult to pry apart and forget about getting another glass of water. So anyway, we drank our wine and got our menus. We started off with the warm goat cheese salad which was very good (as were the other salads but I can't really remember all of them due to having to drink excess wine since water apparently was only dispensed on odd days and we were there on the 4th) I ordered the duck leg confit with the pommes salardaisies (potatoes and onions or what I likened to diner home fries) as did one of my dinner companions and we both agreed we have had much better duck elsewhere. Also ordered was the filet mignon in a porcini mushroom sauce. It had so much of the rich sauce it should have come with a Lipitor on the side. Also ordered was the rack of lamb which was very fatty and had little meat at all. I think at this point after the first LARGE bottle of wine was finished the discussion of going to Chez Burger King came up...So, anyway I kept seeing these large crepes with ice cream going by and decided to go for the dessert and coffee. The banana crepe was decent as was the coffee. Got the bill - 200 bucks (before tip) which is ok but definately not worth it in my book. Service and food at best was mediocre. Skip this place IMHO. Next time I will travel to Chez Catherines. C'est a vie!
Puerto Vallarta recs needed for company meeting in mid Jan. 2008
I second Cafe Des Artistes-went there a few years ago-what a beautiful restaurant-food was wonderful and so was the waitstaff. One of the most memorable meals I've had. Also enjoyed the Blue Shrimp and for a good time and a great margarita Pipi's. Pipi's is not fancy but it was alot of fun and the food was very good. If my memory serves me correctly, they make the guacomole at your table.

Thanks all for the info-Took a look at Chez Catherine's site and it sounds wonderful! I am looking for a new place to go with friends to celebrate the holidays and we all agreed that we would like to go to a place that none of us has been to yet. I will let you know how it goes after we've gone.

Hello all. I was hoping that someone may know about a good French restaurant in the central NJ area? I've been reading alot of the posts on here today (and I must admit they are making me hungry!) and they are great. Still can't find too much on a good French restaurant in or around my neck of the woods. I know years ago Fromagerie was supposed to be one of the nicer French restaurants-but from the recent posts it seems to have changed? All replies will be greatly appreciated! Thanks much-Cheech

Hello All
I was wondering if anyone has been there for dinner? If so, what did you think? Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi all. First post here at Chowhound. Have to agree with you angelo-Thai Thai has excellent food. I've been there on numerous occasions and the food and service are always great.
